This Bothers Me, Do You Agree?

Someone else's recent post (and the comments that followed it) got me to thinking. Our society has a major stereotyping problem: women under a certain age aren't ready for a baby. In no way am I condoning teenage pregnancies here, because when a girl is in high school, has no money, not living on her own and not in a committed relationship she most likely isn't ready for a child. But when does responsibility and independence come in and the age stereotype end? I am 19 years old (turning 20 in January), have a high school diploma, have been...

Urinary Reflux Disease in 18 Mo Old...

My 18 mo old daughter was just given medication for a urinary tract infection...we're lucky we caught it because she didn't have a fever or anything, but every once in a while (we only caught it twice) she'd grab her diaper and cry out. Well, I thought no big deal! She'll take an antibiotic and it'll go away. WELL, her pediatrician just called my home the other night and told me that most likely my daughter has Urinary Reflux Disease - where the body reflux's or flushes urine back up into the bladder and kidneys and left untreated can...

Baby's First Dental Checkup

My work just finished open enrollment for insurance. While it was still going on I called my dentist to see if I should add my son to my dental insurance. He said that he wouldn't need his first cleaning/check-up until 4 years old. Last week my son had his 18 month checkup and the pediatrician seemed appalled that I hadn't brought him to the dentist yet. When did you first take your children to the dentist. Both the dentist and pediatrician seem like reliable sources in the matter, so I'm not sure who to believe/follow. What do you think mamas?

My Daughter Seems to Get One Illness After another....what Is the Norm????

Hi moms! I am getting a little concerned about my daughter. She was an exceptionally healthy baby. I nursed her for more than one year, and she spent her first 2 years without a single sick dr visit. At age 2 years and 3 months we took a trip to NYC. She arrived, and vomitted, then proceeded to get a cold, and pink eye. I was really upset that her first sickness happened away from home. She didn't vomit for the rest of the trip, until the night before we left. I was wondering if it could have anything to do with motion sickness, as...

Changing Station, for the Floor

Hello All, I am currently sharing a bedroom with a 2-month old and since space is a little bit of an issue (we have enough room to fit a huge king sized bed and a huge convertable crib comfortably and nicely) we didn't buy a changing table. Right now I am just changing our baby on the floor on a small mat with his diaper changing 'supplies' in a small basket nearby. I am a VERY organized person and I like everything in its place so I am looking into putting together a little changing station on the floor by his crib to make it look a...

I was just wondering if any of you moms have dealt with this or are dealing with an infant with kidney stones? My 6 1/2 month old son has kidney stones and we also just recently found out he was born with only one kidney. We dont know why he has the stones. He has gone to the childrens hospital in Pittsburgh for urine and blood tests and hopefully we will find out March 3rd what is causing the stones. It could either be something in his blood (which would be ok because they can be treated with meds) or a certain condition which would mean...

Down After Daughter's Doctor's Appointment

I just returned from my daughter's 2-year well-child visit with her doctor and I am totally bummed. This is my only child and I know that I am a little over-protective, but I felt awful after I left there. She had not seen her doctor since her 18 month check-up and I don't call the doctor's office just for anything, so I had compiled a list of some questions since that last visit that I wanted to ask her doctor. It ended up being a little long and I tried not to look so anal with my questions, but they were genuine concerns I had and wanted...

I worked with a broker a couple of years ago - a friend of a friend - to find our current health care plan. We met, went over various options and both decided it would be in our best interest to stay with what we have. My question is, how does she make money? If we aren't switching, does she make anything with us just staying where we are? I feel badly though she was the one who...

My almost 10 month old son has yet ANOTHER round of congestion/runny nose. I would say about 60-70% of the time since he was born he's had this congestion/runny nose thing. He's been sick more often than well! The doc said it was normal for babies to have colds/allergies this often, and it tapers down after they turn 2 yrs of age.
