Online Bachelor's Degree?

I'm in the process of getting my bachelor's degree for healthcare management. I'm doing it all online because I also work fulltime & have a family. I'm going through Virginia College, and while I'm only in my 2nd quarter, I really like it.

I teach English at a community college and have taught online for about 16 years. Be very careful about online only schools. Some are quite good and some are seriously about trying to get you to sign up for a lot of financial aid and then they pretty much do not care. Look into your local community college's online offerings. Think about doing your first two years there online. It will be much more affordable and all of your units should be transferable. I know that we offer online child development classes, for example. Once you are at the third year level, community college counselors will be able to help you determine which schools would be best for the last two years of your degree.

Check out St. Leo University. It's land based school is in Florida. My husband got his four year criminal justice degree, all online, and I started my health care management degree online. I loved them. The professors, most of them anyway, were great! And, because it has the proper credentials and certifications, their credits can be transfered. Some online schools' credits cannot because of some licsensing issues. Whatever you do, just choose carefully.

I got my bachelor's from Souther New Hampshire University online and LOVED it!! I am also working on my master's from them. I am able to sit on the couch with my kids in our pj's and do my homework...so even though it's tough on them to not get my full attention...I think it is easier for me and them because I am still spending some kind of time with them. It was the best thing I ever did!! I got pregnant with my first at 19 but still graduated early...totally do-able!! (With a lot of help :)...)

I'm currently attending Liberty Online. They have an actual campus in Virginia but they also do a full online course as well. It is a Christian college but doesn't just offer "christian" degrees. I'm getting my bachelor's in business. So far I really like it - hope you find a school that's right for you!

teaching is a difficult field for online, but university of phoenix is really a decent school, I just finished my associates in psychology with them. I think findlay offers all online if you want to try something in Ohio.

Not sure how the state of Ohio's licensing procedure is now, but I am fairly certain that you will have to eventually do some sort of work at a college or university. Back in the 90s when I did my work for teaching we had to have completed 500 clock hours in observation/contact hours with children of various ages and in different settings BEFORE we could even do our student teaching. I'm not sure if an online program will require such work from you, thus perhaps not appropriately preparing you for licensing in the state of Ohio.

My best friend did the online schooling. i think it was the school based out of AZ. Anyway, he is not best at schooling but he DID want to get his bachelors degree. I remember for 4 years we basically did not see him very much because he had to study on top of doing a full time job (away from home) and raising 2 kids. He was telling us that its pretty much a self taught thing. you can get help online and do chats with other online students but its not the same as being in a classroom. Having said that I think he said that the studies seemed easier to him than when he actually went to college. (maybe that was the 15 years between attending :)

I started my online degree with University of Phoenix and wasn't impressed with them. I then moved to AIU's online program and loved it. I will warn you that it is time consuming. I spent most Saturday's, and into the evening completing assignments. Make sure that you check with your state guidelines regarding teaching. A friend when through University of Phoenix's teaching program and had lots of problems when it came time to complete it and meet the Indiana requirements.

Any university, will have online classes/programs. Especially for parents/working parents. So, perhaps, ask you local universities...
that way, you know it is 'legit.'

I don't know of any exclusively "online" Universities....
Also, the area of interest you have (child dev., and teaching) often requires internships or practicum courses... in order to get your degree/credits for graduation.
So, therefore, it is not exclusively only 'online'.... and per your degree, there are degree requirements... that you need to do, aside from online.

I just got my B.S. in May but I went to a school set up a little like University of Phoenix advertises, but it was not them(one night a week). I had a neighbor who started the University of Phoenix online at the same time and she didn't make it, bc it was TOO much work. They had to log on and post to forum questions and turn in work 5 nights a week. I only had to go to class once a week for 4 hours and then do homework when I wanted to... I think the convience of on-line can seem easier, but be careful like some of the others said, because it could end up being more work than a working mother can handle.
