"Must Haves" for Labor and Delivery

I am trying to figure out what I absolutely need to pack to take with me to the hospital and wonder what one thing did you take with you that you just would not have made it through your labor and delivery without?

Is It Premature Labor or Not?

I've had constant back pain for about 8 hours now, I've slept all day and don't really know if I had contractions, my water hasn't broken, I'm not bleeding but I've had mild cramping but not regular enough to keep track of, I'm also feeling pressure like pain in my vag. I feel sick everytime I eat something and I'm a little pale and have dark circles under my eyes. Should I call my ob, go to the hospital or just keep laying down using heat pads to try and take the pain away? Sorry, I'm 34 weeks.

Anyone Bank Their Cord Blood

Hi I'm 7m pregnant with my second child and I did not bank or donate my cord blood with my first child, however I'm thinking of doing it this time around. Has anyone done this? It's pricey, but I also don't want to regret it later on.

Where to Birth

My original plan was to birth at home. I've changed my mind for a few reasons, although I still fear birthing in a hospital due to unnecessary intervention and some "rules." The doctor I am going to see next week is at St. Anthony's. I assume that is where she delivers. I feel so uneducated about the hospital situation and birthing. I've really only heard and read negative things. I've also heard negative things about St. Anthony's. I plan on calling tomorrow and seeing if I can get a tour. I am 31 weeks pregnant and the time is getting...

Looking for Lactation Consultant

I just moved here from California and am looking for a great lactation consultant. I'm expecting my third child in April and struggled initially to breastfeed the first two, so I'd like to be prepared. The author of "Spilled Milk", a wonderful book about nursing, lives in St. Paul and mentioned a lactation consultant named Lynn. If anyone knows how to reach her, that would be great. But I would appreciate any suggestions!

Do I Need a Doula If I Have a Midwife?

I'm pregnant with my first child and due at the end of Octobor. I'm working with two great midwives through the Women's Health Alliance at Baylor in Dallas - Cecily Floyd and Jane Singer. My question is whether or not I need a doula along with a midwife. I was told they'll (one of the midwives) be there the entire labor and delivery, and my husband will be helping to coach me as well, so would a doula just make for too many people in the room? I've heard great things about the help they can offer but just wondering if it's worth the...

Epidural or No Epidural?

Hello mamas, I'm now pregnant with my second daughter and due in less than a week. With my first, I gave birth the old fashion way, with no pain-killers. My labor involved 3.5 hours of pushing while I waited for my doctor to show up with the forcepts (I didn't realize that at the time and I have since changed doctors because of it) which left me in very bad condition and took months to recover from. I can't possibly have that bad of an experience this time around but I'm wondering...if I get the epidural, will I just wait till the baby...

Labor & Such

So I've been talking to a lot of moms lately and I seem to be seeing a trend. So I figured I'd see what you ladies had to say. How many of you ladies went into labor at night instead of the middle of the day? Obviously scheduled c-sections and such don't really count for this question. Not that there is anything wrong with them. I'm just curious if it is really more common to go into labor at night as opposed to the middle of the day.

Water Birth or Not?

I'm due at the November 18 with my second child. I'm very interested in doing a water birth but I'm not sure where they even offer this option. I'm in Eagan, MN but am willing to drive within reason. With my first son I only really knew I was in labor for 2 hours so my Dr. told me to give myself an hour this time! AHHH So my questions are where do you recommend (or not) and was this a good experience for you?
