Hi all. When my son was born we had a horrible experience with a lactation consultant so I didn't really get the help I needed and pumped exclusively for 8 months. It worked out okay for us in the end but with this baby I'd like to try to breastfeed more. I was wondering if there are any really great lactation consultants in the westvalley and if they will go to the hospital after you have the baby.
Thanks

Çontact your hospital, as they should have consultants on staff that will come to see you in your room at your request. I was at Desert Sam and also Banner for my kids, and both had consultants at the ready. If you still need support after leaving, La Leche (you may want to email them ahead of time, because their response tends to be slow) League has listings on their website.
I worked at Dell Webb hospital labor and delivery up until about 2 years ago when i became a stay at home full time mom. AT that time they had a full time lactation consultant and 1 part time also. I know they also did some outside consults also. They also offer breast feeding preparation classes through the hospital. You can contact them and they will definately be able to help you. You can also contact your local la leche league and they will be more than willing to help. Good luck. Breast feeding is troublesome at times, but very well worth it.
I delivered my first son one month ago at Banner Good Sam and they had a lactation consultant on staff who came up and spent some time with me. I also had a great nurse who knew a lot about breast feeding. And when I checked out of the hospital, they gave me a list of breast feeding resources. Fortunately, it's going well for me and I haven't really had to use the list, but it was a nice thing to have.
I had a tough time breastfeeding with my son when he was first born, he's 2 now. Depending on where you plan to deliver, I found that the 2 lactation consultants at Banner Thunderbird Hospital were great! My experience wasn't much while I was actually in the hospital, but a couple of weeks after when I started to have a lot of pain when nursing. I joined the breastfeeding moms support group there. We met once a week and it was amazing! Helped me through a tough time of nursing in the beginning. I successfully nursed my son until he was 10mos. old! If she's still there, A. was particularly helpful. Even if you're not delivering there, you could probably call and get some info. Also, there is a store at 51st ave and Thunderbird called Bestfed, and I know that you can hire consultants through them and they have all kinds of breastfeeding supplies.
Sorry this is lengthy! Hope it helps!
