I am looking for an OB GYN. I live in the Beaverton area, but would consider traveling farther for an excellent doctor. Any recommendations would be helpful.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions and recommendations. I have a lot to think about. I need to start meeting with different ones to find the right fit for me. I will need to do some more research and thinking about seeking a midwife. My first baby was premature so I am a little hesitant to not be in a hospital. I have heard good things about midwifery though. I am curious to know if someone has had both experiences one birth with a doctor and another with a midwife. I would love to hear about their experience. Thanks again for your responses.

I know you said you're looking for an OB GYN, but have you considered a midwife? My midwife was fabulous and I really can't think of anyone better especially for a birthing experience. Her name is Kelli McIntosh (although she recently got remarried and may be using her married name) her website is http://www.myspace.com/portlandmidwife . My birthing experience was amazing.

K., I was using Dr. Michelle Sang, but had a bad experience with her assistant. I was concerned about my cycle before trying to get pregnant, and was told to get a blood test to check progesterone levels. The assistant did not listen to me saying that I had really long cycles, and made me get the blood test earlier than I should have. As a result, the tests showed a really low level of progesterone, and she (again, the assistant) told me my only option was to go on Clomid. Luckily, I didn't listen to her, and got an appointment with a fertility specialist (Dr. Hesla of Oregon Reproductive Medicine), who told me that I was correct in the fact that the test was done way too early. He ordered another test, and things came out fine, and now I'm pregnant with a baby boy & due in Oct. (Had I gone on Clomid, unnecessarily, I had a huge probability of being pregnant with twins!) He said Dr. Sang is a very good, competent doctor, but I was VERY concerned about not being listented to with regards to other things in the future, so I decided to switch to the midwives at OHSU. So far they have been extremely supportive and attentive and generous in their time. In the few appointments with Dr. Sang, I always felt a bit rushed. It's farther away, but I'd recommend the midwives at OHSU if they're covered by your insurance plan. If we had different insurance, I probably would've switched to Dr. Carol Suzuki's practice at Good Sam (Dr. Jenna Murray, also listed in another poster's message below, is in the same practice), as I know her personally, but they weren't covered on my insurance. If all goes well in October, I imagine I'll just continue with the midwives. Good luck!

I love my OB/GYN. Her name is Jenna Murray and she practices out of the Legacy Good Sam Hospital. Her office is across the street from Good Sam. She is farther away from me, but I always found it well worth the drive. She was always supportive, a good listener, and open to ideas. Good luck finding a good fit for you.

Best wishes!

I am 9 months pregnant and have seen OB/GYN's in both Women's Healthcare Associates at St. Vincent's and Meridian Park. I had my first daughter with Lisa Pew, and loved her now I see Laura Morrison at St. V's... love her! I have had complications with both pregnancies and both clinics were great to work with--!!! Best of luck!

Hi K.,

I really like my OB-GYN Elizabeth Reindl from Columbia Womens Clinic inside St. Vincents hospital. She has been my doctor for the past four years and right now helping me with my second pregnancy. It is a group practice like most. They are very prompt with calls and answering questions, returning with test results and also Dr. Reindl has been great when I had problems.

I have been very happy with Dr. Sang and Dr. Ono at Portland OBGYN (22nd/Good Sam). Sang delivered my daughter, and Ono was by my side off and on during my labor and recovery (it is a group practice). My friend referred me to them years ago; she saw Ono who helped her throughout pregnancy and delivery of her twins. She picked him after going to the delivery wards at both Good Sam and St V's and asking the delivery nurses which docs they thought were best. Good research! I don't know if either are taking new patients, but it is a great practice. Another good doctor is Laura Morrison and the Women's Healthcare Assoc at St Vs.

I have 2 recommendations..either Womens Health care associates or NorthWest Womens Clinic. Both have excellent doctors. My doctor is at Womens Healthcare associates, they have 2 locations, one by St. Vincents and one in Tualatin. I hope this helps.

I also recommend Women's Healthcare Associates at the Peterkort location. Dr. Warhus is my doctor and is very good. Dr. Laura Morrison is also very good (she actually is the one who delivered my son in January).

I'd also put a plug in for the midwives at Women's Healthcare Associates. I've seen Helen, as the previous poster suggested, and I also love my main mid-wife - Mary Lewis-Rott.

The doctors there are pretty great too, I've heard great things about Dr. Bair.

Women's Healthcare Associates is wonderful. Their Peterkort offices right next to St. Vincent hospital are convenient to Beaverton.

Have you ever considered using a midwife for your reproductive healthcare? I started seeing Helen Welch when I got pregnant with my son, and I still see her for all my gyno stuff. All the midwifes there are absolutely wonderful!

There are many benefits to midwife care: they have more time to spend with you during appointments, they charge a LOT less, and are often less hasty to rush in with interventions that may not be needed. I've met a couple of the OB/Gyns there as well, and they're great, so if you want to go that route I'd still recommend the clinic.

I see Dr Michelle Sang at Portland OB/GYN. They have a office next door to Good Sams Hosital in NW Portland and one next to St. Vicents Hospital. I started going to that practice when I was pregnant with my twins and I was seeing another doctor whom I loved, but he retired so I had to choose another doctor. I already knew right away I would choose Dr. Sang because I already knew several people who were her patients from the club for twin moms I'm involved with. Give her office a call to check it out, ###-###-####. Good Luck.
