I though alot of moms need to know this. The "sick" season is rampant and you may have no idea. Since last weekend my household has been subjected to the flu, bronchitis and strep throat. Here's the kicker! My 6 year old had no symptoms of strep until his hands were peeling~shedding like a snake! Which means he'd had it for a week. I've never heard of this in my life!Nor has anyone I've talked to. He did run a low grade fever but as the flu was running thru the house,we figured that was the cause of the fever.Talk about feeling like a bad mommy!!!

What can I do next?

Thanks for the warning. I have not heard of this either. You are not a bad mom! We cannot be expected to know EVERYTHING.

What I have found that helps my family stay well is taking some good nutritional supplements. If you would like to learn more, let me know. My 6-year-old daughter has actually not missed one day of school this year. I credit this to her using these supplements.

L., you're a GOOD mom! I've never heard of it either. Our children will suffer. Period. Our job is to ease the suffering when we can. We can't protect them from everything (probably anything) so we do what we can to be a soft place for them to come to when life is tough.

Wow, one of my boys always gets a stomach ache when he gets strep throat and a low grade fever but never complains of a sore throat which I have always thought was strange but is one on the symptoms. I have never heard of the peeling hands, I will pass it on to other moms I know. Glad to know another symptom to watch for since not everyone has a sore throat with strep. Thanks and hope everyone in your home is well soon.

Hello L.,
The peeling hands is a weird thing with strep. I found this out with my son 2yrs ago. The doc said look at his hands, if they are peeling he's got strep and his cheeks were very red, another symptom to look at. Don't feel bad, your not a bad Mom. It seems like alot of the what we would call "regular" symtoms to some of the age old illnesses have changed over the years. Just keep doing what you're doing, being vigilant, that's all we can do in this ever changing world of ours.

You need a hug, L.! You are not a bad mommy at all - get that thought right out of your head. You yourself said that you had never heard of this symptom in your life nor has anyone you've spoken with (nor have I). Give yourself a break. There will be plenty of times you will make unintentional mistakes as a mom and that doesn't make you bad, it makes you human. :-) Hope this helps, S.

My oldest son had this too. I was surprised about what it was also. I think it must be very common but nobody really puts it down as a sign of strep.

Hi L.,

Thank you so much for sharing this. There are many different types of Strep and Strep throat is just Strep bacteria in the throat. Scientists generally believe the tonsils act as part of the body's immune system by filtering germs, bacteria and viruses that enter the body through the nose and mouth. The body will catch it there before it infiltrates your system so Strep tends to stop at the throat. But Strep can affect MANY things.

One thing I also know is that with a truly healthy immune system, strep will not attack at all. (Neither will most of the common bacterias and viruses) A good multi-vitamin, a healthy amount of fiber in the diet and a healthy detoxed home builds the immune system. My family has been exposed to Strep many times but have never gotten it.

Feel free to go to my website at www.go2harmony.healthyhometour.com You'll be amazed at how many things break down the immune system.

Thanks again for sharing!

Regards,

M.

When my youngest was 4, she had this too, except her tummy broke out in a rash. I called her doctor and they had me to get her there that day. They said it was "scarlet tina". Basically, it is "untreated or, in her case, under treated strep. She had been on an antibiotic and finished the bottle. But, the strep was still in her body. She was a very sick 4 year old. Her fever went to 104; she was pretty much lifeless for a couple days.

L.-
I appreciate you sharing this topic and the support you received from the other mothers that, without prompting, support you in saying you are a good mother. My daughter ended up in the children's hospital for 2 days a few weeks ago with strep/pharongitis. She did not run a fever and was not acting overly sick (I knew something was up, but she had gone to school the day before as she was not acting sick, just tired).

Not to alarm you by any means, but look up the signs for rhuematic fever and keep a close eye on your child. RF is almost non-existant in the states any more, but one of the signs of RF is the peeling of the hands. My daughter had a rash and I took her in just to make sure.... better safe than regretful!

Healthy thoughts to your son and the rest of the family.
