I have a close friend who live in S.E. Portland off Foster road. She wants to immunize her baby but not on the regular schedule. Her pediatrician gave her a lot of guff about this, so she's looking another pediatrition that's willing to work with her. If you know of any wonderful naturopath, medical or homeopath pediatritians, let me know so I can pass her the info. She doesn't have internet yet, which is why I'm writing on her behalf. Please no emails lecturing me about the necessity of sticking with the CDC's schedule. Thanks, gals!

I have a great one... Dr. Pamela Plank in Lake Oswego at SUnny Day Health... she's wonderful! Her number is: ###-###-#### If Lake Oswego's too far try Dr. Kate Wiggin, she's amazing too.

Dr. Monique Pritchard and the pediatric staff at Sellwood Medical Clinic. They are across town for us and completely worth the drive. Dr. P is very busy, but has a new associate who comes highly recommended as well who I am sure will be taking new patients (most clinics have a pretty consistent attitude about vacc's, I've found.)

I have had absolutely no trouble with alternate vaccination schedules, etc. In fact, several months ago we decided not to do shots on that visit because our son had just had a really hard day. Instead, we were able to go in and have just a quick nurse visit to do shots. (our son doesn't care for the dr.'s office in general and doesn't like to be touched, so breaking up the exam/shots was worth the extra copay.) Anyway, she's great, she's open to our taking our son to a chiropractor or naturopath and doesn't belittle it, and I had to do a lot of searching before I found her!

Best of luck to your friend.

Hi B.,

I love my MD, Dr. Michael Chen. I also have a naturopath and other holistic practitioners, and Dr. Chen is wonderfully respectful about alternate routes. He is very knowledgeable while still being understanding of what route feels right for YOU. I just switched my son's care to him too because of my great experiences with him. They love to see kids, so you are in good hands.

Also, for a traditional doc, I have my daughter at Broadway Medical Clinic. They even have Sat hours. I simply explained to the pediatricians that I wanted to do SlowVax (no more than 2 shots in any given visit). They didn't give me any grief at all. I still haven't done MMR, and my daughter is 3.5. I want to wait on that one; but all others have been done.

Good luck.
B.

Dr. Monique Pritchard over in Sellwood. We have used an alternate/delayed vacc schedule and she has been very supportive. Also, I think if you check the archives here, you will find some additional referrals. Best of luck to your friend!

A few I highly recommend:

Dr. Bruce Birk, Pediatrician ###-###-#### on NW Lovejoy. Easy parking.

Mary Grabowska, ND ###-###-#### on E Burnside.

Sarah McAllister, ND Pediatrics ###-###-####

Any of these would be a great choice for alternate schedules.

I second Dr. Paul Thomas. My husband and I have been thinking about switching pediatricians, so we went to Dr. Thomas' open house last weekend. He spent a lot of time talking to us about alternative immunization schedules, and was downright wonderful. He's rated very VERY higly among pedis in the US, and our freinds that use him just love him. I wish we'd known about him sooner (our son is 3).

I am front desk part time at Urban Wellness on SE Division and 49th. There are 3 Naturopathic Docs there who are all well educated in and supportive of this choice. Infact one of them just today showed me the CDC recommedations for 1983, when there were 10 recommended vaccs, compared to the list for 2007, when there were 36 recommended vaccs. Were there alot of sick kids back in 1983...? I don't remember so...

Hi B.. We recently switched to Dr. Katherine Zieman and she is in Gresham (not too far from SE Portland). She is a naturapath and she takes a lot of insurances. We really like her a lot. We have always gone the natural medicine route with our twins and couldn't be happier. Check out her website:

Dr. Paul Thomas, MD is amazing and we love him! He started his own practice, Integrative Pediatrics###-###-#### www.integrativepediatricsonline.com and supports an alternative vaccination schedule (as outlined in the book by Dr. Robert Sears, "The Vaccine Book"). He is supportive and has a common sense approach. He's on the west side near St. Vincent's but worth the drive if you're friend is on the east side. Highly reccommended!
