Any recommendations for a day care (or other "school") that has a structured program for kids 18mth-3yrs old? Our current arrangement was great from 6weeks to 18mths but now that we're in the 18mth-2yr old class, we're really unhappy with the program and are considering moving our daughter to another day care until she is old enough to attend pre-school next summer (2008). Specifically, we're looking for a daycare that is structured like pre-school (daily lessons re letters, numbers, colors, etc.), and which does not show television to the kids. We also prefer a non-denominational program that has great staff, low student/teacher ratios, colorful rooms, and a nice, safe space for outdoor play. Does this place exist or are we asking too much of a daycare? I'd also appreciate hearing about your experiences moving your child from one daycare to another.

What can I do next?

I have four kids, they all go to the childrens place. To be honest i have yet to see a tv there. it is very secure you have to know the door combo just to go in, and the child to teacher ratio is quite small. my three year old knows all her colors and can say hear abc's. I have one that is almost two and she does really good too. all my kids know alot of nursury rythms and stuff which is another plus. they do thank the lord for things but not in a prayer manner which is another plus for me. i want to teach my kids to pray the way i was taught and if they choose to change that it is up to them when they are ready. I dont know exactly what you are wanting but i know that this is the first daycare that i have actually been pleased with and i hate the fact that i am going to be moving out in a couple of months it is located on spring creek.

Someone I know in Dallas takes her 3 yr old to Shiloh Baptist and she's been going there for a long time. It's on the east side of Dallas in the vicinity of White Rock Lake. They do preschool activities during the day from what I've been told. I'm looking into it for my son. He'll be between 18-24 months when we actually move up there.

I don't know where you live but I have heard amazing things about Smart Start School and Las Colinas Montessori. I am looking at both for my son. He's only 10 mos but 8 mos will go by VERY quick so I'm in the process of deciding bewteen the 2. Good luck! :)

My daughter is about to be 3, and she goes to Bent Tree Child Development Center in Addison off of Trinity Mills. I cannot say enough great things about them! We absolutely love it there. They are structured much like a preschool, but they are very developmentally on track as well (my mother is a school psychologist and she helped me to find a developmentally-appropriate place). They provide structure while still letting kids be kids. They have small classes and have a really high retention rate with their teachers. My daughter's teacher has been there for 6 years! They only change classes in the fall- so they have continuity of care. Anyways I could go on forever, but you should really check them out. They take children from 18 months-Kindergarten.
