mine were high in both , I just had big babies
So I am just over 5 weeks along. Due to some spotting I already had an early ultrasound which showed a normal gestational sac and yolk. That spotting ended but then returned and I have had very light, pinkish spotting for five days now. My doctor ran HGC levels on Monday and then again 48 hours later. They were looking to see at least a 50% increase in two days and that's what they got, altho I was hoping to see the numbers double. What is a little strange is that the numbers are quite high, 9,300 the first time and over 13,000 the second time, which is at least twice of the upper range of normal for five weeks. I have another US scheduled for Monday but I am wondering if other mom's have experienced this and what happened. I have heard both twins and molar pregnancies can cause spotting and high hcg??

With my oldest I had a "vanishing twin" a second embryo had been fertilized but apparently did not implant properly or had a problem of some kind. The 2 embryo to start with got the HCG off to a very high start and then when the 2nd did not survive the levels started to fall off a bit. Of course the viable embryo was still creating and doubling HCG.
Good Luck.

My initial hcg levels were high at first with both of my pregnancies and then they later leveled off. With my first they did initially mention that hcg levels are high with twins or that maybe I was further along then I thought, but with my second I didn't even question it. I didn't have spotting & other then that my pregnancies were fairly normal. Congratulations & good luck
This happened to my sister when she was pregnant with twins. Her levels were really high and they sent her for regular US until they could figure it out. They couldn't see the other embryo, though, until around 12 or 14 weeks because of their placement.
