I have been told that, that can be a sign of twins! I was also told with #2 that mine were a little on the high side, but there was nothing wrong & only 1. Good Luck & don't worry.
I had my first blood work done for baby number 4 on Thursday morning. On Friday the Dr's office called saying that everything looked fine and that my HCG levels were a little high. But they didnt elaborate or say that indicated a problem or anything. She said my level was 7459. My blood was taken at 5weeks 3 days. Or 23days past ovulation.
I looked back through old baby books and the two that I recorded say that I was in the 4000 - 5000 range at that time with the others..... The number doesnt seem to high or anything, but I was just wondering if anyone knew what this could be an indication of if anything. thanks!

HCG levels vary in everyone, it could indicate twins, but most likely it is just a nice strong level.
I have a friend who just went through the same thing- hers are high- she was terrified it was twins- its not though-just high levels- I think it can cause worse morning sickness though- GOOD LUCK
Hi J.,
I would consider calling to the help desk or the nurse and asking them for more clarification.
Good luck,

Could indicate a multiple pregnancy...numbers are higher with more than one. Good luck!
I think that might mean you are having twins!!
High HCG Levels can mean a number of things. When I was pregnant and they took my blood work, I believe my HCG levels were around 15,000. The first thing the doctor thought was multiples...so I had an ultrasound done immediately. Well the ultrasound confirmed only 1 baby. That was a relief.
Another reason my HCG could have been so high is that I was 8 weeks along when having the blood test (I don't ovulate regularly so it took a while to realize I was pregnant).
Sometimes a higher HCG level indicates that you are further along in the pregnancy than thought.
There are other reasons too...but it's been so long since I researched it, that I can't recall what other causes can be. You can always search online at babycenter or webmd...I believe that's where I got most of my information. Or consult with your doctor and ask what the higher HCG levels can mean. Odds are that it's absolutely nothing, like in my case :-) Best wishes!!!
There is a possibility that your hcg levels are a little high because there could be more that one baby in there. I can't say for sure but I don't think there is anything wrong. You also may be a little further along than what they think. I wouldn't worry about anything. Good luck and congratulations on the expecting of your new baby!

I am a 31 yr. old married stay at home mom. I have been married for almost 12 yrs.(this Nov.). My husband and I have 3 boys ages 10 yrs., 7 yrs. and 4 yrs.
days past conception/ovulation (DPO) hCG in mIU/mL
in singleton pregnancy
7 days 0 - 5
14 days 3 - 426
21 days 18 - 7,340
28 days 1,080 - 56,500
35-42 days 7,650 - 229,000
43-64 days 25,700 - 288,000
57-78 days 13,300 - 253,000
17-24 weeks 4,060 - 65,400
25+ weeks 3,640 - 117,000
Twins (and higher multiples) generally see higher levels of hCG (about 20-30% higher for twins, not double.) Interestingly, elevated levels of hCG have also been linked with singleton babies with Down's Syndrome
this info was taken from peeonastick.com(under HPT FAQ) these are the levels that dr.s go by...you can see that 21 days is not much lower than yours at 23 days and if you can mathematiclly figure out 20-30% higher than the normal for 21dpo than it might be twins ....ofcourse if your dr was worried they would have done further testing...and if you are worried call and talk to a nurse or see if the dr can speak with you they can put your mind at ease and let you know what it means...even if they 'say' one thing- nothing is comfirmed until further testing is done and at 5-8 weeks you can have a cvs test to check for any abnormalites...and you can also learnt the sex of the baby...good luck! I hth and wishing you a happy healthy 9mos well 8mos!

i could be wrong, I'm not a dr., but isn't that a sign of multiples?
I have heard that higher Hcg levels can indicate twins. I am not sure how high they have to be though to guarantee this. Good Luck and Congrats on your pregnancy!!! :)
Hello J.,
In some research I've done a High HCG level, could mean miscalculation of dates of the pregnancy or twins lol. Try not to worry, they should check it again for you. If it comes back high again, they will probably want a ultrasound.
Good luck
T.
there are ranges for different stages of pregnancy.. the ranges overlap.. if yours is "high" - it's not, just that you are probably a little further along than you might have thought. They can confirm with an ultrasound - which will give you the baby's size and approx gestation. Sometimes your body does something different than what you think it is doing.. Don't worry about it!!
I'm an RN in the ED.. just so you know a little about me.
PS. Congrats!
Hi there! Congrats on baby #4! My HCG levels were extremely high at first too. In fact, they were so high that they thought I was having twins. But, after my first ultrasound, they found that it was really a follicle that had attached itself to my ovary and was feeding off of my pregnancy hormones. Weird, right? Well, apparently they're not too rare and don't cause complications other than cramping sometimes and they make you look HUGE. I had to start wearing maternity clothes before I was even 3 months along! They would check it every few weeks via ultrasound for size, etc. It finally dissolved about my 4th month. Good luck and let us know what you find out.
Could be that you are having twins. The Hcg level is usually higher with multiples.
Either you're further along than previously thought or you could be carrying multiples!
You could be pregnant with twins.
Just a thought - but it might be that you are carrying more than 1 baby. Congrats on your pregnancy!
Twins maybe?
I have heard of the level being a lot higher with twins. A girl I worked with had started showing very early and wondered so then did the blood test and it was very high. She had different sex twins!
Keep in mind that so many women never even know they were expecting twins because their body takes over to protect themselves from something you could or could not handle. Good, bad, right or wrong things happen for a reason right?
Good Luck!
congratulations!
high hcg levels CAN mean twins...it can VERY RARELY indicate an abnormality with the baby but USUALLY means nothing at all and is a normal, healthy baby. both my girls were high hcg levels and both were healthy singleton babies !!! good luck and God bless!
It could mean multiples!! Like twins for example. I am the mother of twin boys, who are 2 now. We didn't find out until our 12 week ultrasound- had it early due to my ripe old age of 38, Doctor's wanted to check things out earlier than the normal 20 week ultrasound. I was stunned to say the least. But It was a blessing, I thank GOd for all the time. I have two other boys at the time were 3 & 2, the twins were my attempt at a girl. ;-)
take care,
Kathy
not to freak you out or anything but when they told me my HGC levels were high, it could mean further along or multiples. With my second pregnancy, it read elevated and I had an ultrasound at 9wks. Nothing abnormal, one fetus and exactly on target. With my third pregnancy, it was elevated as well, so we didn't do anything specific. At my 23 wk ultrasound I found out I was carrying twins!!;) We are thinking that the second one was also a multiple pregnancy, but by the time I had the US, it had already "absorbed." Currently my children are 6, 4 and 2 1/2 yr old twins. I try not to complain too!! I would just suggest an early US for your sake. Hope I could help and am not intending to send you into a panic!:)
J.,
I am no doctor, but have been told in the past and in reading that elevated HCG levels could mean multiple births. But if you are that concerned about the levels I would contact your physicians office and inform them of your concern and ask to have the doctor call you to discuss this or ask if you could come in early to discuss this.
According to The American Pregnancy.org website, your hcg levels are in the normal range. Check out: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/duringpregnancy/hcglevel...
Best of luck in this new adventure!

sometimes if your numbers are high it could mean your having twins.
i'm thinking twins. i don't know how that works though, but it makes sense.
Maybe it's #4 and #5. Not just #4??????
Could it be because of twins? Just a thought.
Good Luck!
really sounds like TWINS to me!!!
good luck!!
Hey J.
I have three daughters and oh how i remember all the bloodwork, urine cks, etc.. lol
I havent read the other posts,so this may have been addressed already. but the only thing I can think of is that you are further along in your pregnancy than the dr.s think you are-- or of course there is always the possibility of twins- although if this were the case I am sure your numbers would be multiplying faster.
So I will be curious to see what they say.
I pray your pregnancy is healthy and amazing for you!
J.
Hello, have they check to see if maybe you are pregnant with twins? I when you pregnant with twins your HCG levels are usually double what they should be with a single pregnancy.
Could be multiple gestation or maybe you are farther along than you think. Good luck
My girlfriends were the same way. Twins was her reason... Good luck! :)
i just looked it up and at 5 weeks your level should be around 7340 so you are not that much higher I would say you are probably further along then you thought. Hope this helps!
