Temporary Weaning to Formula

My exclusively breastfed 6 month old son has had severe eczema for over 3 months now, and we don't know which way to turn. We have seen medical doctors, tried alternative methods, used every ointment, lotion and even steroid cream, but have not been able to get this under control. Over the last 10 weeks I have eliminated the 10 major allergens from my diet, as well as tried a major elimination where I only ate turkey, brown rice, sweet potato, and squash. I have done these for 3 weeks at a time, as it takes that long to clear the system...

3 Mo Old Son Has Food Allergies

Hi moms, I am worried about my young 3 mo old. I'm currently nursing him (no trouble there), but he has a particularly bad case of ezcema on his cheeks... This has been going on for about 3 weeks. I've used eucerine calming cream, and that seems to keep the dry, scaly skin from getting too bad. The doc recommended using a 1% hydrocortisone cream, but i'm nervous since those have not been proven completely safe for infants... In the last few days though, he has had a flare up that caused him to vomit (just once after I took my calcium...

Adding Extras to Infant Cereal

Okay I was just wondering why some people add fruits and juice to infant cereal? I have been reading some responses to some requests about rice cereal and younger babies. I have read things like It is bland, so I add juice or fruit to it or I add sugar or brown sugar to make it taste better. So I really want to know why parents do this? Because the baby is used to breast milk or formula and I know that those things don't taste great to us, but we have been eating all kinds of stuff. Babies have never tasted anything else, they don't...

What to Add/leave off Baby Registry?

Hi - I am wondering what items other Moms have put on their Baby Registry, and what items you would leave off? Obviously, leave off clothes, but is there anything you wished you had put on that you didn't, or vice versa? Also, when it comes to things like bottles, should I register for a "variety" pack of sorts? Or, should I research basically everything in advance before putting it on the list? I've started researching the bigger items, strollers, high chairs, diaper genie, etc. so I can put on the items that have the best features or have...

6 Mo. Old with Bad Exzema?

My daughter has really bad looking "patches" of dry, red skin on her face [mainly on her cheeks]. I've tried Aveeno Baby lotion [for exzema] and her pediatrician said to use 1% hydrocortizone cream, but i thought it might be too strong. It doesn't seem to bug her much. but it looks painful. :/ Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks, C. H.

How Do I Get My 4 Month Old to Feed from the Bottle?

My 4 month old daughter is too used to the breast and will not feed from the bottle. When we try and give it to her, she fusses, screams and cries until we give her the breast. We've even tried Avent, Dr. Brown, Nuk, etc nipples to see which one is closest to the real thing. We've even tried feeding her with the bottle in the morning when she is the most hungry but that doesn't work either. Will she get better if I start feeding her rice cereal? This makes it really hard to leave her with a babysitter. Any suggestions would be greatly...

8 Month Old Sleeping and Eating Habits

I have an 8 1/2 month old little boy.....over the past few weeks he has been more difficult when eating; he throws his hands around and, often, whacks the spoon with the food and occassionally spits when I try to give him his next bite. i have tried slef feeding, but he's not diggin it; all foods that he is fed are foods that we have already tried and he likes. Is this just a phase, am I feeding him too much (he is a great eater)? Same little boy...had pretty bad exzema (sp?), used Aveeno and humidifier to clear it up, but wasn't...

Rash When Son Eats Solids

Hello, I have a six month old baby boy, and we recently introduced solids. He has tried sweet potatoes, peas, butternut squash, and bananas. I was wondering if it is normal for a baby to get a little red on their bottoms after trying solids for the first time. At first I thought it was a specific food, but then it happened with all of the above. Has this happenend to anyone else's child? Maybe his system is telling me he isn't ready yet?

Allergic Reaction to Yogurt - I Think

Help! I started my 10month old on YoBaby yogurt yesterday. (Super Baby Food Book says you can start at 8mo) He had two messy dirty diapers in the afternoon, and then by bath/bedtime his entire body was covered in red blotchy raised hives/rash. We gave him a long Aveeno oatmeal bath and put Aveeno lotion on him (he has had a mild case of baby ecsema.) I called his ped 1st thing this morning, and they said to try Benedryl and don't give him any more yogurt at all. My question is - how long should I wait to try again with the yogurt? Or...
