Treatment of Child with Disabilities at School

Background on my daughter. She has been diagnosed with ADHD, Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) , Generalized Anxiety, Tic syndrome & Sensory Issues. I've been battling with the school for a few years now on getting an IEP or 504 put in place. I'm setting up another meeting & I refuse to leave the school until one is put in place. My daughters grades are dropping in one particular subject b/c her teacher absolutley refuses to make ANY special accomidations. My main question is they are currently punishing her by taking away her...

Help-my 8 Year Old Is Very Picky About Her Food.

I have an 8 year old that is very picky about food. She either wants something different from what i've made and if not, she won't eat. I can't get her to eat veggies or healthy food. It all started one day that we were at my in laws house, and she almost vomited, ever since then, she is always saying that if she tries something new she's going to throw up. I've tried telling her to try something first, before saying she doesn't like it, I've tried the mother and daughter cook day, where we make somthing together, i've tried to hide the...

Obsessive/compulsive/worry Type of Personality in a 6 Year Old

Hi everyone. I'd like to start by saying that my 6 year old is such a pleasant, beautiful kid. Over the past several months, we have noticed the worrying get out of hand. We have had to pull him out of activities due to his little fear of bodily injury. He was losing sleep anitipating when the next activity was going to be and would count the days. We felt it wasn't worth all that anxiety and decided to take him out and telling him (we didn't quit), but it was his choice when he will be ready....giving him control. As I have been...

Dyslexia & Dysgraphia

My soon to be 8 year old (March 20) daughter has always written things backwards. She used to write her name in mirror image all of the time. So not only were the letters backwards they were written from right to left. In kindergarten I asked her teacher about it, and the teacher said it was still quite common at that age. In first grade I asked the teacher about it, and she said that since my daughter was not failing that the school would do no testing on her. Finally, I found out I could pay for testing through the Child Studies...

My 7 Year Old Says He Wants to Die!

How can a 7 year old be depressed? He is very loved and cared for. Doesn't need or want for anything. Yet he will say, "I hate myself", "I wish I could die" or "I wish I never existed." I don't know how to react. I have tried telling him how much I love him in a serious way and telling him sad we would all be if he would die or if he never existed. I've also tried acting nonchalant about it and just saying "Well I sure do love you" and then tickling him until he laughs. I've also told him to stop saying those things. My husband (his...
