What's the Scoop on Vbacs in the Boston Area?

I live in the South Bay area of Los Angeles and we're possibly moving to Boston. I had a c-seciton and would like to try for a VBAC next time around. The hospitals in my current area don't even do them, but I'm curious if that is the case in Boston, or if the hospitals there are more open. I'd love to hear if anyone has personal experiences with a particular Boston-based OB/GYN who did a successful VBAC as well....

What can I do next?

I had a c-section at Newton Wellesley and they told me that there should be no reason why I couldn't do a VBAC next time. Newton Wellesley OBGYN is fantastic - I love the doctors and staff there!

I live in Framingham, which outside of Boston, and my VBAC will either be at Metro West Medical in Framingham or Newton Wellsley Hospital. My OB is also based out of Framingham and was very supportive of my decision to try for a VBAC. He did have me schedule a back-up c/section date, but scheduled it for almost 2 weeks after my due date to give me the best chances of a VBAC. Good luck finding someone in the Boston area! I am sure if you search around, you will find a doctor that will be supportive of your decision. The hospitals in Boston are fantastic.

I haven't had a VBAC but my last delivery had to be c (low placenta) and my OB told me she'd have no problem having me do a VBAC as long as the placenta was in the right place in a future pregnancy. I noticed in your other post you're moving to the Concord MA area. My ob is Concord OB/GYN and I delivered at Emerson Hospital in Concord. They are awesome! I'd highly recommend both the doctor's office and the hospital.

Find a midwife. That would be my best suggestion.

I don't know an answer to your particular question, but I ADORE my OB. I chose more expensive insurance _just_ so I could keep seeing him. He delivers out of Beth Israel, which is a great hospital. I've found him very open-minded about personal decisions in the past, but again, can't comment directly on the v-bac. Still, worth asking. His name is Todd Shapiro, and he's based in Brookline.

If you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask!
