YES Go to you family Dr. first see what he says than if necessary go to a foot Dr. There are several things that can cause this.
I am 47 and have noticed that the toenails of my big toes are turning purple. Has this happened to anyone else? I am not a high heel or tight shoe wearer so I don't think it has anything to do with my footwear. Do I need to see a doctor about this? It's freaking me out.

Thanks for the advice, ladies. I am going to make an appointment to see the doctor. I do not run, I have well trimmed nails, and I don't wear tight shoes. So, I think I have pretty much ruled out any type of trauma or damage to my feet. Therefore, a doctor's appointment seems in order. Thanks to all who responded.

Are you a runner? Get new running shoes lately? This is a pretty common condition in distance runners. If you haven't had some other sort of injury, I'd definitely see the doctor. It could be discoloration from toe nail fungus--it takes a long time to grow out but there are a lot of natural remedies for it.
Hi, you have a fungal infection. You can buy some stuff at pharmacy to apply on your toes where the lotrimin sprays are. Takes 6 weeks or so to get any better. Or take oral meds through a physician. Good luck.
my aunt had the same thing happen and it was blocked arteries. I would go to the doctor as soon as possible just to make sure everything is ok.
Hi,
Yes you do need to go to the doctor. There are a few things it could be, but only a doctor can tell you.
I would think that if it's the nail plate itself and not the toe, you are likely allowing your big toes to grow too long. Therefore, shoes are putting pressure on the tips. I was a nail technician for 6 years, and saw this all the time. Sometimes, the nail turns purple and in a matter of a few weeks, they toe nails fell completely off and grew back new. Keep them cut back to where they cannot rub up against any of your shoes.
Yes, you need to see a doctor sand have some blood tests done.
Are you a runner? That has happened to me when I ran.
