Teething Reccomendations

We got up after a night of almost no sleep to find a little sharp spot in our 8 1/2 month old's mouth - we have officially entered teething. So, what things have worked for you to help this process go smoother? I'm especially interested in natural remedies, and wonder if anyone has had success with an amber teething necklace.

What can I do next?

Hylands Teething Tablets work the best. DO NOT use Orajel as it could numb her throat and cause her to choke and gag. A little Infant Tylenol or Infant Motrin will also help. Good luck!!

For a natural remedy you can try humphreys or highlands teething tablets. They absorb in water and you rub that on the gums. You can find them pretty much anywhere. Good luck!

I know you said you wanted natural remedies but Tylenol really does help. They are in pain and so pain meds really help them feel better. But also chewing on cool things seem to help too. Try a popsicle.

Highlands teething tablets worked great for my kids.

Although we didn't dissolve them in water as one post suggests...... It just said to place under childs' tongue. They dissolve immediately as soon as they are in the mouth so we didn't even always get it under the tongue but they still seemed to work very well.

We picked them up in the natural/organic section of the grocery store.

We were able to wet a washcloth, lay it flat on a cookie sheet and freeze it. The kids sucked on it for comfort. There was no mess, and it was easy! Good luck to you and your little one.

Humphreys Teething Relief - Swift Strips - are freaking awesome. On a fussy night my baby went to sleep with in 10 minutes. They are natural, easy to give to the baby, and you can find them at Walgreens. During the day I let him chew on anythng he wanted - toothbrushes are great for teething babies.

As for amber I used an Ambrina Baby Grabbing Toy by Selecta - google it you will find it - my son loved it and still loves it at 16 months. Amber works but you want to be careful about amber some of it is fake (plastic) that is out on the market or it has been "enhanced with plastic" - if its cheap its not all amber - a black light will make real amber glow - but each variety glows differently.

We used Gripe Water, and Hyland's teething tablets. We used Tylenol if a fever was present. Out of all of it the Gripe Water seem to work the best. I give it for baby gifts - it is a baby staple in our family!

I tried the ora-gel when our daughter first started teething but I don't think it helped that much. Hard to put on her gums and really only helped for about 20 minutes and then she was crying again. A friend recommended teething tablets that are holistic and we love them. They calm her right away and she immediately goes back to sleep at night. I love them and can get them at the drug store.
Be sure to give them lots of things to chew on or he/she will start to chew on your furniture. No joke, I've caught our daughter going for the coffee table a couple of times. I even put things in her crib so she won't chew on the rails. Good luck!

I don't think there is an easy way to go thru teething. I used a lot of wet wash clothes that I would put in the freezer so they were real cool and they could play with the wash clothe and chew on it and get relief. Also baby orajel worked on those nights when nothing else would work. I never had any success with teething rings or necklaces. Also you might give her a dose of baby motrin on the really bad nights to help with the pain.
