Homeopathic Teething Remedy?

I have been using Humphreys Teething tablet. The directions say to dissolve 3 tablets in water and apply to gums but its like water. How do you apply? Does anyone have a better recommendation? My 7 month old wakes in the middle of the night crying and I have to rock him back to sleep. Is this normal?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I first want to saythank you for the HUGE outpuring of care and concern I got from all of you fellow mammas. It definately works better to just dissolve the pellet in his mouth and rub it on his gums but he is still incredibly fussy. I know this is normal, I mean, I would be pretty fussy too! However, he went from sleeping through the night and waking only to have his pacifier replaced to waking 4-5 times screaming and it worries me. Such a drastic change almost overnight. I really don't want to try the motrin because I want to keep him drug free. I will continue to keep you posted. Again , thank you so much!

You could also try highlands teething tablets and they are like little dots and they dissolve under the tounge, or you can melt them in a spoon full of water and just feed it to him that way.

Hey V,

Try Highlands (available at whole foods and some pharmacies). They dissolve on contact with their mouth, so don't worry, he won't choke.

I use Hyland's homeopathic teething gel and seems to work really well! I bought it at Whole Foods and have seen it at other health food stores. I have also used the Camilia teething relief by Boiron and it works well, but I like the gel best. Good luck.

Of course this is normal.
When a baby wakes, it is very rare for them to be able to comfort themselves back to sleep. And if there is pain involved, it's impossible. A dentist once told me that adults would not be able to tolerate the pain that children suffer from teething. Those little teeth are like bullets SLOWLY pushing their way through raw, virgin skin.
I recommend looking in the aisle with the baby stuff at Whole Foods. It has been years since my kids were teething, but I think the remedies I used were from Hylands. There were tiny pellets to dissolve directly in their mouths and also something to put directly on the gums.
all the best!

Hylands teething tablets are AWESOME! They are homeopathic and dissolve instantly so there is no chance of choking. They are very small too. We used them with our DS; they really work.

I bought them at Walgreens.

The directions do say to desolve them, but I find that if you just put one or two in their mouths and let them gum them it works just the same and they like it. I have 4 grown children and a 1yr. old grandson and we have used them on all 5. Good luck

Hyland's teething tablets and Hyland's teething gel are my #1 recommendation...homeopathic.
Also Gum-omile Oil by Herbs for Kids.
Whole Foods sells them.
Infant's Tylenol is safe as well...use as pediatrician directs only.

Kids usually wake at least once until the age of 2...some parents get lucky and their kids sleep through the night from early on. I suggest not to talk to him or feed him. If he wants to drink give him water.

I used those with my daughter, but dissolving them in water did nothing for her. My daughter had teeth so I gave her one at a time and told her to chew it and by third one, she was drooling all over the place!!

I didn't dissolve the tablets, just put them right in his mouth. Try it that way instead. It seemed to help my son.

Ah yes, the teething years. I can tell you, V. that it doesn't last, but during teething, it can practically make you pull your hair out. One of my boys used to cut 2-3 teeth at a time. This made the process go quicker, but it was really rough. Now that he's 13, believe it or not, he's teething again! Molars this time. What I did when he was little, and the same thing now is to give him something cool/cold to suck on. That's a little hard during the night though. I know that you'd like to do this naturally, but all I can tell you is that Motrin works fantastic! You only need to give it every 6-8 hours. It's fast acting, and long lasting. It made my son so much more comfortable. If you give it about 20 minutes before your little guy goes to bed, he should be pretty comfortable during the night. If you choose not to use Motrin, then perhaps something cold on his gums before he goes to bed, and just ride it out. I don't know any really good natural remedies for this. My grandma would say put a little whisky on his gums, but yuck! And who wants to do that to their little one? There's also Baby Orajel. That works OK, but wears off too fast. I would say the Motrin works the best if you want to try that route.

We used Hyland's homeopathic teething pellets. I started my daughter on them by dissolving 2-3 in her bottle before bed each night. They worked wonders. We switched her to the tablets when she was about 15 months, but you could probably do it sooner- they basically dissolve on contact with her mouth, so there is no risk of choking. Plus, they're tiny.
Good luck!

Hylands teething tablets dissolve in the mouth. Also we use an Amber bead necklace during the day and it helps a lot.

My son started teething a little earlier than I was expecting. He had his first tooth just before he was 5 months old. Anyways, everyone told me about the Humphreys and when I was getting ready to buy them in the store, I ran into a woman who recommended Hylands teething tablets. They are homepoathic just as the Humphreys are, however, you place the tablets directly onto your babies gums and they instantly dissolve. After using the Hylands, I thought, why not try the Humphreys to see how they compare to each other since I heard so much about Humphreys. I was dissappointed with the Humphreys because of the fact that you had to dissolve them and the try to find a way to apply to the gums. I swear by the Hylands brand. I think you should give them a try. My son is 14 months and working on his molars and I am still faithfully using the Hylands.

Hyland's teething gel and dissolvables are the best! Yeap, my baby is 8 months, and I still rock her. Although, I don't rock her when she wakes up in the middle of the night. But I am still breastfeeding, so that is how she goes back to sleep. It's a tough time...my daughter already cut 3 teeth...there are two more that look like they're coming, and she has really cranky days...it seems that the top teeth have bothered her more than the bottom teeth.

Don't dissolve in water put two tablets one at a time in your baby's mouth directly...hold against gums it dissolves instantly.....................Yes, the rocking is normal, but see if there is something like a security blanket that might help your child to soothe his/herself

When my son was a baby we didn't have any homeopathic stores near us - rural PA - so the best option available was Baby Oragel, nighttime formula. If you can't get the other options to work, this is the best non-homeopathic method I've used. Sorry not more help.

I use Highland Tablets (Hiland/Hyland - don't have them with me). They dissolve in the baby's mouth. My son would swallow them before they dissolved so I hold them against his cheek until I feel it getting mushy and then I rub the mush on his gums. He's calm within seconds.

I tried some homeopathic teething remedy for my second daughter. I'm sorry I don't recall which brand it was but I just put the tablet in her mouth and it instantly dissolved. I cannot honestly say that it did anything to help her. I always resorted to giving my teething babies ibuprophen or acetaminophen before bedtime. I know you are obviously wanting to got the natural route, and I completely understand. I tried the natural route too and when it didn't work, I found something that did. Good luck. My third child is teething right now so I can totally relate to the discomfort your child is going through.

I would see if you can dissolve them directly into his mouth. Ask someone at Whole Foods (whole body section) or the pharmacy where you brought them.
The homeopathic remedies that i buy for my baby can be put directly into his mouth.
I also brought frozen fruit & put them into that little food strainer that babies can suck on, which he loved & seemed to help.
Also, MOTRIN!!!! It can't hurt & helps alot. Don't be afraid of the MOTRIN!!!

Hi there I used to dissolve the pellets in a tiny spoon and then gave it to my daughter to swallow, like a spoonful of medicine. But by 7 months i put it on h tongue to dissolve by itself. I did that with both girls and I gave it twice a day. I gave them both the pellets and a dose of tylenol when I saw that they were in alot of pain, like if they were crying and couldn't sleep. Worked like a charm for us and my girls barely suffered teething pains. Good luck.

I've given the same to my 3 kids, only I put the tables in their mouth, like candy, it disolves and taste sweet, they love it. The also have drops, (different brand) that will last longer, for overnight. Try motrin for pain & inflamation. Some kids have a harder time than others. Poor Babies!
Good Luck!
