So What Happened?

So, after reading all comments i went to the league and repoted this, Not only did they find out he was accused of rapping a 19 year old in 1993 while he on his last year in college at a phrat party, and then had another case open, in 2002 for assulting another woman, they are all women and i pleasted with the league that it was still a threat to all the moms, but they did nothing he has been at that league for about 3 years, and even though he is a reg offender with a pic of him on the site adn address and everything they did nothing my siter and I did not let our kids finish the season, and also alot of the other teams forfieted the games, I am not returning to that league. And even thought he is just a sponser he always made his way into the dug out or on the field trying to coach, when we already had a coach.

If this person (business) is only a SPONSER, meaning they gave money to the league on behalf of a specific team, they probably have no contact with the kids at all. In which case, is this really an issue? On the other hand, if this person is a manager, coach, etc, intervention is absolutely called for.

I would e-mail the link you found that confirmed that he is a sex offender and ask them if they are aware and what they plan on doing about it. I would tell them they have two days to respond otherwise you will start to tell the parents. Why I say this is that it is the LL responsibility to remove this person . Getting the parents all riled up could be dangerous and the league needs to learn the facts and deliver on a response. Two days is ample time for them to discuss his removal or to tell you , you are mis-informed. Good luck and I am sorry this happening.

Don't break out the pitchforks and the torches just yet....make sure you know exactly what you are doing. As far as sponsoring the team...my son's team is sponsored by a local restaurant and we've never seen hid nor hair of anyone from there...is this REALLY an issue? Possibly an amends-making gesture on the part of this individual? Get ALL the facts before circling the wagons!

You should tell the league in which your child plays, not the other parents. It is the leagues decision as to whom they let sponsor teams. So long as this person is not physically around the kids, and stays within the mandated limits, there should not be an issue.

I hate to say this, but I will give you the best advise possible. You don't know the reason behind the offense. It doesn't mean that he was advised by the athorities to stay away from children either. If you are concerned, you need to speak with the people who run the League. Spreading rumors and gossiping is not only against Christianianity, but it is wrong and can really hurt someone. Especially if you don't know. Let the proper people know in the League and let them research it. If they find out it is something worthy of removing him, then I'm sure they will. I can't imagine that they would have anything less than the best intentions for yours or anyone else's children. This way, if they see fit, they can remove him without any embarassment to him or the League. If he is wrongly accused, he can have a lawsuit agianst you or anyone else for being falsely accused. You never know. Just be right with your conscience and let people handle it who need to handle it. The 19 year old girl could have been a floozy who got really intoxicated and this guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Like I said, you never know.

Definitely get it checked out by the police. I didn't think sex offenders were allowed near schools, I'm assuming practice/ games are near school...

I think that the first thing would be to talk with the coach find out the story, if you as a parent do not like what you hear, and you can look up this information. Then take action, everyone in their life does something that they are not proud of and this may be the case here you never know. But also keep watch on your child along with the others just to keep your mind calm.

This is absolutely inappropriate for a sex offender to be involved with a little league. It does not matter the age of the victim, this is a person who acted inappropriately with another person, no matter what. I would contact the police and ask about this. Normally this type of action is not allowed for sex offender--to be involved with kids in this manner. This is dangerous. You can check the research on this one, like me, and you will see that once a person is charged with a sex crime, they are very likely to repeat this action. And also, this person probably has a history of inappropriate actions and might have only gotten charged once. Definitely check with the police on this first to give you an idea of what you can do or maybe that may be enough--the police may take over from there. Good for you for staying on top of something like this---you would hate to hear that something happened to one of the kids! I think you also have every right to tell the other parents what you have heard and checked out. How many stories have we all heard about people wishing they knew a sex offender was living near them only AFTER something terrible happened.

I would let the league know and let them deal with it. They would probably pull his sponsorship and let someone or some other business sponsor the team.

When my son played baseball, his sponsors were always businesses in the area, never 1 person and the sponsor was never at games, so you league sounds different.

Good luck!

I completely agree with Jeannie M-report it to the right person immediately. This way you can make sure you have the right person, and you are bringing it to the attention of who can take care of things in the fastest manner.
I also completely disagree with Amanda L. Slapping a girls bottom in a bus stop? Very stupid move on this guys part and he deserves to now be registered as a sex offender. It may seem a lot less scary than raping a girl but the intent and creepiness of that is enough to scare a parent and child. The laws are in place to stop an act like that from going any further. I agree that there are situations where let's say a 20 y/o man dates a 17 y/o girl and he may or may not know her real age and the parents find out and the poor guy gets registered as a sex offender for life when really it was just two young people dating. But whether a man raped or "just slapped a girl's bottom" I would not want him to be around my children!

I'm sure by now that it's too late to back out of the league. I don't think that this company should have sponsered the league but I'm sure the arguement is that it was the "company" not him tune. I would let the board know so if they choose to use this sponser next year you definately know not to use this league! I wouldn't be terribly concerned though. The sponsers just put there names on the shirts . They don't usually come to the games. But still I'm saying inappropriate!

Yes you need to protect the others. I would contact the local constable and let him advise the parents. It is really a violation of their conditions to be near kids if this kind of thing is in their character. Protect the kids, it is a duty of care.

Don't even think twice about this - the word needs to get out. No matter the money this sex offendor is giving - it is a hypocritcal message (We do all for our kids but we'll take money from someone who takes advantage of kids???). There is absolutely no reason a sex offender, no matter the crime, should be a sponsor for little children or be allowed around so many children. It is our duty to report this kind of information to other parents to protect children because once they are allowed t have a foot in the door, they will want to come in - so to speak.

I think you need more information. As someone else has already mentioned, if he is just giving money to support the team and isn't directly involved with coaching the kids, then perhaps this isn't an issue. Also, you don't really know what the situation was...if he was 18 and had consensual sex with his 16 year old girlfriend, then he could've been convicted of child molestation b/c he was legally an adult and his gf was not. Absolutely if this guy is a true child molester and he has contact with children, the parents AND authorities should be told b/c he is most likely in violation of the law. However, you should probably get more information (quickly) before you do anything that could ruin this guy's life.

You should tell the head of the league and have them double check on it. For instance, there are a LOT of "Joe Smith" s in the world and you have to make sure you have the right one.

My husband is not a doc, but we get calls and mail all the time for "Dr. xyz" (who lives about 15 miles from us) because people looked his name up on the internet.

You do not want to tell the other parents. Just be at the practices and do not let a child be by himself with the coach.
It is up to the League to do something----do you know if you tell people something about someone, even if it's true, you can be sued for libel? Or is it slander? It's one of those...and it's dang serious.

I think you have to bring it to the attention of the Little League and depending on how they handle it, then tell the other parents. Telling the other parents right away just causes a to-do without actually doing anything productive. You should find out the details and decide whether the children are in danger. If you think they are and the Little League takes no action, by all means spread the word!

Absolutely, positively without a doubt inform the parents and proper people. Should not be a question if you should!!!
For those saying he's just a sponsor- you are opening the door to allow him to get closer to children whether it be just to watch a game, volunteer as a sponsor or think they can start getting around children without being an issue. IF it were a case of 18 year old with a 16 yr old gf then yes it's different, but attention has to be made to the fact a sex offender is having interaction in directly or directly with children.
