I commend you for being such a young mom who is very involved in the kids' lives. My sister had a daughter at age 18 and a son at age 19 and she was single. I can see how challenging it can be but being a young mom has its advantages. I also have two children, a five year old girl and a three year old girl. Having them 20 months apart is tough but rewarding to see them so close. As for starting a new career, would you consider joining me at a friend's house in Seal Beach (bordering Los Alamitos and Garden Grove) for a workshop? Its free and we'll have wonderful refreshments. Maybe you will like the product and will consider becoming a consultant for this direct sales company, which is the fastest growing company in sales and the most generous with excellent incentives, rewards, benefits, etc. Or maybe you won't find it appealing but can use this info for something else. You'll like the ladies. You can network with them. I'm sure they could give you suggestions or job leads, as well. I'm bringing two new moms with me who don't know anyone there so you won't feel like you're alone. You don't have to do any talking if you don't want to say anything but I seem to think you have good leadership and people skills. First I want to congratulate you on all of your hard work! I worked with pregnant and mothering teens at a group home and you are exactly what we were trying to create! Well I have a suggestion for you. I know you said money is an issue but, I work at Concorde Career College. We train for medical vocations. At my campus (Garden Grove, but there is North Hollywood, San Bernadino, and San Diego campuses as well) we have medical assistant, dental assistant, insurance, coding, and billing specialist, respiratory therapy, and vocational nurse programs. There are tons of scholorships out there as well as financial aid. The first three programs I mentioned are about 6-8 months long and the other two about 18 months. I would suggest you check them out at the concorde website, www.concorde.edu. This might be what you are looking for! Good luck!!

wow! we have a lot in common! i am 22 and have also been married for six years and i had my son at 16, (i did not finish hs though) i went to college and finished a year then had my daughter when i was 19, went back to school, it was super easy cause we had excellent daycare in santa barbara, we moved to irvine for my hubby to be in grad school and i just had my third baby, a little boy, in february and im planning on going back to school this fall. and hopefully my little ones will get into the daycare i put them on the list for!

when we needed money when i was 18 i went to appleone employment agency, even though i didnt have any degree or job experience at all, they were able to find me a 9 dollar an hour full time job in less than a week!
if you need a job fast i totally recommend that place!!

I know how difficult it is to look for a job right at this moment, when the economy is so bad. If you want a decent job you are required to have a two year college in many places. Just to work as a receptionist making $9.00 per hr. The school districts in different areas have occupational/career centers where you can get certificates. Since you already know computer and typing, it should be easy for you to study something quick. Community collages also offer classes in child development, you can work with pre-schoolers. How about, nursing assistant. The training is very short and you have the flexibility of working morning, afternoon, or nights. Some nursing homes even offer the classes as long as you work with them.

Gosh, I can relate to the question of where to start. My daughter (21) is going through the same thing. I would suggest the ROP program where you can take classes specifically for the field you are interested in and they help you get placed in a job. It may not be your dream job, but it may help you determine what you don't like. Also, local Mom Clubs can be a great source of support and contacts.

If you can find a community college you should be able to get plenty of financial aid. From there it shouldn't be impossible

As I recall 45 wpm was a minimum for typing positions, but the real question is what are your interests? When trying to start a career it is a good idea to inventory what you like and don't like to do. Also keep in mind that in this weak economy you may have to settle for less than your dream job -- but still dream -- to have a focus of what you are working toward. If you could go to college what would you study? Go on the internet to find hot careers and see what it takes to land one of those jobs, then work toward it. Is your husband able to care for the kids at night so you could work days, then take 1 class at night -- it took me 10 years of night school to get my degree. Maybe check out the certificate programs at community college that get you career ready w/o the general ed requirements that many college degrees require. Have you checked with all the people you know directly from your volunteer work w/ your kids? Good luck to you!

In order to make great money with great tax benefits you should seek a Home Based Business and be your own boss and work for you not making someone else wealthy. You are trained and do not need ANY experience.
Think about it and make sure you do your due diligence and make sure you understand the opportunity and that the person who introduces you helps and trains you. That is very important. I wouldn't work for anyone else but myself. Leverage your time and money. Most work for money, we make money work for us. Why make your boss wealthy when you are more than capable to make you the wealthy one. I 'd never work for anyone else but myself. You are paid what you are worth not what your boss thinks you are worth...huge difference. Start a business at home part time and get a part time job and when your part time job makes more money than your full time job then it is time to work smarter at home not harder for someone else. There are many legitimate home based business just make sure the product or service has great value and people want and need what you are offering.
