Hi, M.. First of all, I am so sorry for everything you and your family have gone through. I hope you know you're not alone and have the support of trusted family and friends.
My husband and I (married only 8 months at the time) filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy six years ago. It was in Idaho, so I doubt the name of the attorney would help you. (I wouldn't recommend him anyway.) We were being harrassed day and night by creditors, including collection agents who would rather resort to cruelty than go without their money, and then my husband's wages were being garnished over a child support mix-up. We were desperate and thought we'd never make it. Anyway, six years later, out of the "deep water over our heads" situation and able to see clearly (as is typical of hindsight, of course), we realize bankruptcy, even in our desperate situation, was a mistake. We just went through a course called Financial Peace University, by highly experienced financial counselor and an acclaimed radio host, Dave Ramsey. And I fervently recommend it. He lays out one coping strategy after another to give hope to those considering bankruptcy or are just having terrible financial difficulty. Even now we are benefitting from the principles outlined in the course, and I thought we'd never reach this point. There is also a support group online for FPU participants so you can connect with others in similar positions and exchange ideas and hope.
I wish you the best, M.. Let me know if I can provide additional information or if you need someone to lean on. :)
