Need a Good Fertility Clinic/doctor

My husband had cancer last year and we've just learned we can't have any more kids - though there are some possibilities with IVF maybe (I hope!) Can anyone recommend a good fertility dr. and clinic in the area? We live in SW (Westslope) but would travel across town for someone fantastic. I can't stand working with unresponsive offices, rude staff, etc, and as long as I'm going to pay thousands of dollars for their services, I want to work with an office and people I love. I've heard Dr. John Hesla is good. Anyone had experience with him? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much, everyone! It sounds like there are a lot of good options out there. We decided to go with Dr. Hesla at Oregon Reproductive Medicine. We're in process and so far very happy with him and their office.

I also recommend OR Reproductive Medacine. Its right by good sam in NW Portland. My Dr was Dr Matteri but I also had Dr Hesla for some procedures. I did IVF too and have an awesome little boy! I have a friend who did IVF there to as well and she has 4 beautiful girls (2 sets of twins, not quads!)
Good Luck!

Dr. Hesla is the BEST! He helped my husband and I conceive our twins a few years ago. He is thoughtful, personal, and everything else you would want in a doctor. Actually he is considered one of the best RE's (Reproductive Endocrinologist) in the country. We are very lucky to have him and his practice in Portland. The nurses at his office are outstanding as well as the embryologists there. The practice is called Oregon Reproductive Medicine and is located in NW Portland (Lovejoy and 21st). Email me if you want more info! Good Luck!

I used both the fertility clinic at OHSU and Oregon Reproductive Medicine (where Dr. Hesla practices, although I was a patient of Dr. Bankowski) for IVF. Both were very good medically, but I prefered the "vibe" of ORM. I felt their bedside manner was better for the most part. Dr. Bankowski was fantastic and I was able to work with him throughout my treatment. At OHSU, the docs rotate call, so I never saw my primary doctor other than for the initial consultation and one progress check. I ended up doing three IVF cycles, and if I had it to do over again, I would have spent all my IVF dollars at ORM.

I would recommend the OHSU Fertility Clinic. My husband tried for 4 years to get pregnant. We each went to different fertility doctors and even had some procedures done that in retrospect seem ridiculous. After much frustration we together went to the OHSU fertility clinic. Within the hour & a simple ultra sound that no one else had thought to do, they had discovered that I had an ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit. I had it removed by an incredible surgeon (he was able to remove the cyst without taking the ovary per our wishes). Four months later I was pregnant with my daughter who is now 5! I know my situation is different then your's but we had a great experience with that clinic. Fertility is a big business and we didn't feel like they were trying to sell us uncertain procedures. They got to the heart of the problem and treated us like humans. Oddly enough I am drawing a blank on the Dr's name but I can easily look it up if you want me to, just send me a note back.
Best wishes,
N.

The OHSU fertility clinic is excellent. I preferred adoption as an option for us, but some friends have used the OHSU clinic (it's at the base of the hill, under the tram landing) and have been pleased with their results.

In addition to the fertility process, they are very good at ferreting out the "why" and treating that, if possible. Excellent genetic counselors, too.
