Nanny Pay for Holidays

Hi N., My husband and I have always paid our Nannie the entire salary, including any days off for holidays or of our choosing. Let the rest of us moms know what you find out. I'm interested in what other families are doing. B.

all providers should get paid for the holidays. If you were off and that means she was able to have off she should still get the holiday pay. monday was the designated legal holiday for both Christmas and New Year.

If you have been happy with your nanny and what she is bringing to your household, I would pay her for the time off.
If she misses a lot of work or you have had problems, I don't know that I would.
I have a new nanny who only started in October and she has done such a great job with my girls, I will be paying her.

We give our sitter/nanny a bonus for the Holidays instead. Because our schedules (my husband and mine) we have a lot of time off around the holidays. It is more economical for us to do it that way. I have heard of others paying their nannys for the holiday. I don't think it is required, but they really appreciate it.

It depends on the arrangement you made with your nanny at the time of hiring. Most people I know with nannies, including myself, however, pay for holidays. For example, any paid holiday I get from work -- day after Christmas, day after thanksgiving etc. we provide pay as a benefit to our nanny.

Hi N.- it is customary to pay your nanny for those days. My mother was a nanny for over 5 years and she was paid for each holiday. I now have a home day care and I have listed that Xmas and New Years are paid holidays-although they fall on Sunday, I am closed on Sunday and I get paid for Monday. Best wishes, M.

We do. We try to err on the side of doing more rather than less and I do think it helps create a better working relationship.
