Is there anything in the Terms and Conditions (I've been reading through it) about using bad language on this forum? Also, what is considered "bad language" anymore?

I admit..... I don't like seeing or hearing foul language.

What can I do next?

I think that calling people names that are meant to demean them or using language that a person would feel uncomfortable saying in front of a member of the clergy, such as a pastor, preacher, priest, etc...if you wouldn't say it in front of them without feeling bad I would say it doesn't belong here.

This a part of the terms and conditions that I thought is interesting/relivant:

I don't like hearing foul language either. It probably is in the terms and conditions. Actually, calling someone a b*tch is considered flaming by mamapedia's rules.

I don't like bad language either, however, how bad are we talking? I personally haven't run across anything just completely unacceptable but maybe I've been really lucky. Although I don't like it, my take is that we all have to deal with things in this world that we do not care for; unfortunately, we can't police everything under the sun. I believe that some people's opinions are just as irritating as a bad word, but like I said, we just have to take what we want and let the other words/advice go. Is it really worth using resources for something we should ignore, if we don't like? I am exposed to foul language on the radio, racy advertisements as I shop with my kids, teens cursing around my kids at the store, etc. Not much I can do about it so I just try to keep my kids away from it or turn off the radio. I personally, just let it roll off my chest and choose to ignore. I understand if it bothers you, however.

99% of the time, when people swear here, it gets altered. Darn, durn, shoot, patoot, bum, tucus, hail, freakin, fracking, shut the front door... or typed out in Leet Speak (1337 $p33k ... using numbers and symbols instead of letters...µ$1n9 nµmb3r$ 4nÐ $¥mb0£$ 1n$734Ð 0ƒ 13773r$)

We're most of us parents, afterall, and even if we swear in real life (I've got expletives to spare... I collect them from 4 languages! Chinese is my favorite language to swear in ... seriously, you can't beat a tonal language for swearing. British English my 2nd because it's so descriptive and imaginative), we usually don't swear around other parents.

I personally use & let pass substitution words (darn/doggone), as well as 1337 as long as it's not ridiculously long OR directed at someone. As do most people. Calling someone an anal sphincter (or other names) just doesn't fly with me.

It's not the tenor of this board. As a general rule we don't swear, or we alter swear words and use them sparingly. We absolutely don't use racial or religious or sexual epithets. We're united colors of beniton around here.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I don't even like the words most other people say aren't so bad.

But I haven't reported any, because I don't know what the site's standards for language are other than the vague definition they give in their policy. Their *practical* opinion of what words are really objectionable may be quite different from mine. And if I report six posts every day, will they get tired of hearing from me and space me out as a crank?

For instance, if actors say the word in movies, is it OK here? If it is, so much for any restrictions!

It doesn't make a post - or a poster - more understandable or sympathetic to others to use "substandard" words and expressions. There have even been some studies (I can't document this, but I've heard) indicating that a person who uses violent, abusive, profane language, even out of frustration, is more likely to become violent and abusive physically. Now there's a thought to make me keep my mouth (or typing fingers) shut.

Malia:

The "bad language" is USUALLY referred to as swearing...dropping the "F" bomb, "S" word, etc. They USUALLY don't say anything about 'damn' or 'hell' and sometimes a$$ flies and sometimes it doesn't.

Bad language - all depends on your moral compass. Some people don't think twice about dropping "F" bombs and think it's a comma or an exclamation point.

Malia, all you have to do is report bad language. However, it doesn't do any good to report it until Monday morning. MP is off for the weekend.

Lots of bad language on this threads this weekend, and a lot of threads and posts to report. More than I can count. All the way around. Blech...
