Jeans for Moms

Hi Ladies,
What brand/style jeans do you like to wear? I have a hard time finding jeans that fit but are stylish/appropriate for a Mom in her 40s. I'm not a huge fan of the real low rise. I seem to have a problem with jeans staying up though, low rise or not. I'm not sure if I'm buying the wrong size/fit or what. I have lost a little weight (maybe 5 pounds at the most). I did buy a size smaller. They seem to fit when I try them on but when I wear them they start to fall down & just get worse as the day goes on. I am constantly pulling them up. Help! Thanks!

What can I do next?

I'm a bit younger than you (30), but I have 4 kids aging from 1 year to 10 years (the youngest 2 are only 18 months apart), so my body has gone through the wringer a few times carrying 9 lb babies, gaining 50+ lbs, then the weightloss after baby. I'm just now getting back to my pre-baby number 3 weight, 3.5 years after I became pregnant with her. I've also had 4 C Sections, so that makes a huge difference in my preference with jeans. I have a butt that seems to not "fit" with my thighs and waist. I only weigh just over 150, but I'm only 5' 3" :) I have just recently discovered a new (to me) style of Levi jeans. Levi has always been my favorite brand (though I've heard several people talk highly of The Buckle brand, so I may need to try them). I found my favorites in the Jr section. I should also mention that I prefer a cut that is below my waist, but above my hips...just below my belly button. My new favorite cut is the 524 which is labeled "Too super low" but really, they're not low at all (by my preferences). They seem to have a bit more room through the hips and seat, but still not baggy in the waist and thighs. I guess its harder to describe than I thought, lol. I can tell you that no matter what style or brand I wear, because of my "junk in the trunk" type of body, I absolutely must wear a belt daily. Otherwise, I'm constantly tugging on my jeans, no matter how well they fit.

I bought a couple pairs of Rich & Skinny from Nordstrom. They are very comfortable and stylish -- the rises vary. Also David Kahn -- they look great at any age.

Jeans are where you want to spend your money. Washing cheap jeans just doesn't keep the size and shape. More expensive name brands have higher quality fabrics. So I'd shop in more department stores that have a womens section so you wont get a ton of the low rides. If you can't find them, ask the staff. They will know if they have regular jeans or not. They can also help you find the right size and length.
Just all I ask is that you don't get the tappered legs. I beg of you not to. That never flatters anyone!

I've had luck with Levi's relaxed fit jeans in misses size. I get themat JC Penney. They are regular waste as the mid and low rise waste bother me don't like looking at someone's rear when they stand up from the low rise. They also have a tummy control in them to make you look slimmer. I'm 63 and enjoy them and wear them to work.

Good luck with your fit.

I like Style & Co. at Macy's or Dockers jeans. Mid rise is better than low rise.
Sound like you have some of those "growing" jeans that loosen up (too much!) as you wear them. I hate that!

Make sure you're not getting ones that have any stretch or spandex in them. All of the ones I have like that are falling off at the end of the day. Just original cotton denim will serve you better when it comes to falling down. Land's End and Eddie Bauer have always had good ones that fit well, look modern but aren't for teenagers. However, many of theirs do contain spandex. If you get the super-low variety (only 1%) and make sure you get a fitted size -then they tend to hold their shape pretty well. Real Levis and Calvins with no spandex still look great too!

A couple of years ago I tried the jeans from Chico's and I LOVE them! This will sound funny, but my Mom was getting such good looking jeans from there I had to try them myself. They come in tons of colors and washes, both boot and slim leg and most have a little stretch to them. Most styles are mid rise and I think they have a few pairs that are a higher rise (around the belly button) Their sizing is totally different - 000 through 4.5 - and they have have both petite and long lengths. A salesperson should be able to help you with fit.

Totally same boat, but a little younger mom :)

I thought all would be well when I lost my baby weight and pulled out my old jeans, only to discover THEY STILL DON'T FIT. Whaa?? It was confusing and depressing.

My solution was to get some jeans (cheap ones from Old Navy - the "sweetheart" fit) and have them altered. I had a tailor cinch the waist so that they would stay up all day. (It was better than my previous solution of using giant safety pins that would come undone and poke me during the day!) It's not the best solution, but it's worked really well for the past few years and it's really cost effective.

I find any jeans that have any amount of spandex or "stretch" I have to wear a belt with so that they don't sag off by the end of the day. Doesn't matter what size I buy, style I wear or brand that they are. Does not matter how tight they start out when I put them on in the morning. If they stretch they sag..period. And for some reason you can not buy any pants anywhere that does not stretch anymore. I have looked, believe me :(
I'm on the same hunt. 3 kids and just turned 40. WIthout surgery that tummy is never going to be the same again LOL

You may have to pay a little more...I find its the cheaper jeans that stretch like that. Check out Citizens (Amber bootcut and Elson Straight) and also Paige (Hidden Hills). These are widely considered some of the best higher rise jeans. If you don't want to pay the full price for them just go to Nordstroms and try them on then look on Ebay. You may get a much better deal.

I have had great luck with GAP Jeans..Perfect Bootcut and High Rise Skinny. Although they 'can' be prone to fall down. I am going to size down for my next pair.

I also really like Seven for All Mankind midrise bootcut.

Do you have a Buckle store near you? If you do, that is my favorite place for jeans (I am tall and have a hard time with getting a good fitting jean). All of their jeans come in men's sizing... so waist and length (duh... I so wish all women's jeans did this) instead of size 8,10,12, etc, because then they just vary too much!! The best part of the Buckle, is the staff are super helpful and knowledgeable about what they have and will help you through the whole process (I have been to different Buckle stores, and have always experienced very helpful staff)... bringing stuff to you to try on, etc. (they don't work on commission, so don't worry about that!). They will be more expensive, but in my opinion, totally worth it. I only have 3 pair jeans... which I think is the perfect amount... otherwise you have too many clothes that you just don't like, etc.

Check out the jeans at Express. You will spend a ton on them ($80+) but they don't stretch and they last forever. Just remember when you go in there, it does tend to be a younger store so don't take these girls in there personally. = ) I am 40 and just direct them as to what I want and need and they can be helpful.

Good luck!
