What Kind of Jeans Do You Buy?

I hate my jeans. I really want to get new pairs before fall so that I don't have to wear my old ones anymore. What brand of jeans do you like and where do you buy them? If you're willing, I'd love to know approximate costs. Also, what type of fit do you prefer?

Here's a couple of things I'm looking for in a pair of jeans:
1. When I sit down on the floor, they don't sag so low that my butt is showing, nor do I have to hike them way up before I sit.
2. They are not skinny jeans
3. They don't have lots of rips/tears or other features to make them look old/trashed/worn out
4. Not excessively embellished (a bit on the back pockets, but that is all)

I am 5'3" and about 138 lbs. Most jeans, even "short" jeans are too long for me, so I will almost definitely need to alter anything I buy.

Any recommendations are highly appreciated!

Coldwater Creek. Love them. Come in all different waists. At waist, sits, right below waist, or low waist. I think 29 length is their short.

I love Seven Jeans, Paige Jeans, and Citizens of Humanity. They typically cost around $200, but I try to buy them at Nordstrom Rack, where they will cost around $100.

I would never spend more than $100 on jeans. Who can tell the difference? Cheap, expensive, look the same. It's denim. (ETA: I have never seen someone wearing jeans and thought they looked expensive. Never. Jeans look like jeans. Expensive dress slacks, you can tell the difference, but not with jeans.)

I get mine from Eddie Bauer. I have big hips and a small waist and they carry really great curvy (not plus size) jeans that don't gap at the waist. Mid-rise, so not too revealing. They run about $60, I think, but I usually get them when they're on sale. Simple, adult styling. Eddie Bauer carries a variety of fits.

I buy my jeans from the men/boys department at Target. I can choose size by actual waist and inseam measurements, the fabric is more durable, and they cost less than jeans from the women's department.

Not Your Daughter's Jeans. They fit all of your criteria, and there are several different cuts. I buy the boot cut Barbara Modern cut and love them. I'm about an inch taller than you and the same weight, so hopefully those would fit you too. NYDJ offers petites, which you'd probably need.

Depending on where you buy, they cost $80 - $120. Or you can sometimes find them on eBay new for about $30. And I respectfully disagree with the people who say cheap jeans look the same as expensive ones.

I'm not sure what your budget is but I buy my jeans at Nordstrom. They have a huge selection and the sales people are great at helping find you what you want. Hemming is free with full purchase price. I'm 5'2" so I take advantage of this! Just be sure to bring the tallest shoes you want with you when you try them on.

I am in love with my Paige jeans. I'm sure mamas will freak but they run about $100-$150. They are awesome quality, soft and I love them! TBD is the department at Nordstrom that I prefer to shop. They are not mom jeans, nor teeny bopper jeans. They are perfect! Good luck!

At 5'3, short jeans should fit you. Remember that unless they are getting grungy dragging on the ground, the longer the better. Jeans that only hit the top of your foot will make you look heavy/shorter. Gap has good jeans. Try Marshalls or TJ Max too. Lee has good stretch ones.

I am 5'3 and short-waisted. The jeans that look best on me are Joe's Jeans (the Vincent) , although they have various styles, so do try them all on and see what might work for you. Joe's are good quality, don't fade as quickly as some cheaper brands and fit nicely... AND look stylish...

because I am shortwaisted, it's been tough to find jeans that look just right on me...
Joes took care of that.. They are more pricey than some (about $150 to $200) range.. However, well worth it.... Mine have lasted quite a long time and still look nice... I don't mind wearing less expensive and have... but in most cases, the less expensive jeans faded quicker and the denim wasn't too great a quality.. For what I spend on say 4 pairs of cheap jeans, I could get 2 pair of Joes and have them last several years now..To me, Joe's have been worth it... I have dark wash and lighter ones.. in both cases, they look good..

good luck

I am tall, so I am one of those rare lucky people who can buy jeans without altering them, but pretty much everyone I know has to. I think they purposely make them longer so many different shapes and sizes can fit into them with just slight alterations.

Anywho, I love Joe's Jeans - they fit my small waist, bigger butt/hips nicely and have many different styles. They are of the more designer/costly jeans - in the $110+ range.

I've also had success with the new jeans at Old Navy - they are in different styles for different shapes of bodies and have skinny, bootcut, etc. And, are in the $20-$25 range.

Finally, I've also had luck with Express jeans. They also have different styles for different body shapes. I would say they are mid-priced between $60-$80. I always wait for a sale with Express and look for coupons online.

Also, have you ever tried one of those custom fit sites? I know Levi has it and here's another one: http://www.makeyourownjeans.com/. A friend of mine who is really tall tried one once and she loved the results.

Best of luck!

I get Levi's 505's. those are the only jeans that fit my body. I had a pair of Lee One True Fit trouser jeans and I LOVED them! They don't fit me anymore, and I guess they quit making them, so now I can't get another pair! :(

10 years ago, I thought jeans were the most uncomfortable piece of clothing in the world and I didn't even own a pair and then I tried Chico's denim and they changed my mind. They are made for 'women', not girls who have no hips. I HATE so many brands because since my hips are fuller, I end up with a huge gap in the waist (I wear an 8). I like that they have stretch to them so they are super comfy. They run about $75-$95 but I always try to get them half the price or more when they are on sale. They have vanity sizing so you are not hung up on 'I'm a size 8 and these pants aren't fitting me and I am not going up a size'. I have tried Gap, Lee and Old Navy and my butt hangs out and the fit is awful on every one I have tried on. That's my experience.

What kind of jeans do I buy? Thrift store ones. It takes some perseverance, but I often find jeans that look good (more often than one might expect); the previous owner evidently changed sizes or just decided she didn't like them. So I may not be much help on how much I pay; I'm willing to go up to $10 (very high for me) if I fall in love with the jeans. When I can find Coldwater Creek ones in my size, I'm very thankful. Straight-leg jeans, of course, are easiest to alter if it's needed.

I wear jeans everyday and feel they are worth investing in. I think I have paid up to $175 maybe? My absolute favorite are AG (Adrianne Goldschmed)! I also also liked a few David Kahn. I don't like the low, low risers either and I have a flat butt and these are most flattering. I am not sure what is in your area but Nordstrom is always a good bet. I have also seen them at Off 5th. We have a store called Hot Mama (shopmama.com) that will fit you into your jeans and has a great selection. If your jeans sag or you have to hike them up, they are likley too big. We are about the same size but I get regular length but always have them hemmed (to wear with heels) because if I get petites they shrink and then are too short. I usually get a bootcut, it is my go to. I have a few that I wouldn't call skinny jeans but that are more fitted to wear with boots. I don't know, I know some people think it is ridiculous to pay that much and go through as much for jeans but when you wear them that much and want to look good, I think it is worth every penny. I am a firm believer that if you feel good about how you look, you will feel good about yourself and be a happier person.

I like old navy jeans they have a cut of jeans for every shape.
I also like Levis 550 . I'm 5'4" I prefer regular length jeans , shorts feel too short when I sit down.

But try those , I'm round in the bottom and skinny in the waist so I'm hard to find jeans for.

I am 5'8". I prefer Riders or regular Lee jeans because they are cut enough for my rear and they come in long length. Also they do not gap in the back. I hate that. I refuse to pay more than $35 for a pair of jeans that gap in the back or do not fit right in the thighs or are really low in the waist. Levi's don't fit me at all.

I'm with the others in that I don't spend a lot of $$ on jeans. I have found Old Navy and JCPenney have lots of different styles, look and feel nice and are a great price. I have the opposite problem of you in that I am very tall and have to special order my jeans so that limits my selection but I know they both also have petite sizes so you might consider trying that and avoid the whole too-long-hem issue!

AG! They are amazing: nice thin denim, good quality so that they last for years! They are all I buy, and I am pretty much the same height and weight as you. I love the cigarette hem...they are cropped but not capri length. Perfect for a person on the shorter side. And they just have a nice wash with little to no embellishments. They run a little pricey--$100-$200--but are worth it since they last for years. I wear mine at least three times a week and they still look great.
I hope this helps!

I bought some Levi's last year and love them. You should be able to fix your #1 issue because they have a bunch of different fits for each type of jean, and I know the other three items would be met as well.

I have always had problems with too much space in the back, so there is a large gap on my back, but I was able to find a fit that works for my body and doesn't do that. You do have to try on a bunch of sizes and styles though, the different styles and fits had me in a few different sizes to find what fit best. They are around $50.
