I had my mirena put in 3 years ago and every time me and my husband are intimate he can feel the darn thing and sometimes it scraps him. I also bleed almost every time after sex. Does anyone else experience these problems? Is it normal? Thanks!

What can I do next?

This happened with my husband too, the strings may be too long, the Mirena may have shifted and need to be re-positioned. Mine literally fell out in the Dr.s hand, and she just put a new one in and we have been fine since. See your Dr., they can trim the strings and make sure it is in place correctly.Good Luck.

I have used it twice. Each time i have no problem and especially none that you mentioned. Call your doctor and try to get the nurse on the phone.

I haven't ahd any of those problems. The only problem i have hdd is weight gain. only like 5 lbs but still 5 lbs is 5 lbs.. You might have your obgyn check it to make sure it is the right spot. When I asked mine about prgnancy's on mirnea she said only from people whre it had fallen out or was not in the correct postion. Call you gyn adn ask her.

NOOO!!! That's not normal at all. I'm on my 3rd one and I've never had any issues whatsoever. It sounds like maybe it wasn't inserted properly or had become dislodged. I would go to my doctor ASAP if I were in your situation. Good luck!

I am on my second Mirena, (Love it love it) My ex, could feel it when we had intercourse. He basically tried to explain it to me as almost like a string poking him. But it was never uncomfortable for him, just noticible, and he was so used to it I guess we thought it was no big deal. The bleeding after sex never happened to me, BUT, i'm on my second one now and it happened with this one. I just had my 2nd one put in about 3 months ago. I've actually only had intercourse once since it was placed, this past weekend, and Monday morning, I thought I was going to have a period (which is weird for me, because I've basically only had one period in the past 6 years and that's for hte 2 months I had not IUD in.) But I did not ever actually bleed more than just a little after the sex, so maybe that's normal. I would check on the bleeeing part, feeling it is normal. Guess I could've just said that sentence instead of this long paragraph. LOL>

I've had mine one year and that has never happened. My husband can't tell it's there and no bleeding. (I hardly ever have a period.) It sounds like you should have your Dr. check it.

That is not normal, you need to see your Dr and make sure it's in the proper place and they can also trim the strings so that your husband doesn't feel them.

I've had mine 5 months and that has never happened to me. You should definitely go in to the doctor, it could be out of place. If I want to check mine and I reach up as far as I can, I can BARELY feel the threads. IT sounds like it should be higher up. My doctor told me that they can definitely slip out of place. Did you go in to have the doctor check it after it was put in? I did and that made me feel better

I don't think so. Call your dr. It might have shifted out of the correct position.

Yes, this happened with my husband too. The dr. will trim the string, takes 2 seconds! I'm not sure about the bleeding that may be something different you may want to talk to your dr. about. I had some bleeding like that with the shot but don't remember anything like that with the mirena.

My husband was poked everytime we were intimate as well. I would spot for about two days after. I also had pain during intercourse with certain positions and cramped for a couple days after. My libido disappeared which is totally UNLIKE me and my hair fell out by the handfuls. When I went to have it removed after nine months, my doctor had a hard time finding it. In hindsight, I would have had him trim the strings, and check its position to make sure that it was in place. Good luck!

Hi R.,

I had the Mirena placed about 6 months ago, and my husband was getting poked everytime we had intercourse. I went back to the dr. and she trimmed the strings. It is better now, but depending on the position, he can still "feel" it. Anyway, either way, you should see your doctor. If he has always gotten poked by it, maybe your strings need trimmed, otherwise, if this is a new development, it may have shifted. And I am still spotting everyday since I've had it placed too....that is supposed to subside over time...but it really is a pain. Have you experienced this spotting? Good luck!

I've never had that happen, but I've heard that it can sometimes move a little. I would call your doctor, expecially if there's some bleeding. I would play it safe, and if you are intimate with your husband before you can see the doctor, use condoms. I have a friend whose Mirena was scratching her, and the dr. just had to trim the string (that was about 6 months after having it).
