Birth Control - Mirena - Shawnee,KS

Well I'm on my second mirena and I like it. With my first I had irregular bleeding for 3 months and then it stopped. Then I got a period every month and then those stopped too. This time around it probably took about 3-4 months to stop the weird bleeding, but then it did. I've had it in for 2 years and I haven't had a period in at least a year or more. It works great for us! I do think you should probably give it another few months, but if you're miserable then maybe it's not worth it.

I bled for 6 weeks straight and had it taken out. I also gained weight, broke out and had ZERO sex drive. Someone below said its better than having hormones like with the pill- not so, Mirena HAS hormones, so if you don't do well with the pill, you likely won't do well with Mirena. I couldn't stand it and my husband said he could feel it during sex. After I have this baby, I'm going to try the Paraguard IUD. It lasts for ten years and has NO hormones. If I don't do well with it, then its up to my husband!

Funny you say this because I just got the mirena placed about 6 weeks ago too, although I had started my period about 9 months after my son was born... and it was much worse period than ever before. Since I've had Mirena, I've had spotting and bleeding on and off (mostly on) the entire time as well. My doctor said It should go away and that if I can do it, to wait 3 month before making a decision about removal because apparently, this should get better during this time (less and less bleeding, even possibly no bleeding). I am going to give it the 3 months to see if anything improves, but if it doesn't, I'm getting it removed. I don't really like having a foreign object stuck in my body, but I'm not prepared to take more drastic measures and the birth control pill just doesn't work for me as both of my children are birth control failure babies!

I was on the pill for 5 years before I decided to switch to an IUD. I had the Mirena for a year, and I hated it. When it was put in, I spotted for 3-4 weeks straight, cramped really bad, gained weight, got bad acne..it was terrible. Then no period for 2 months, but I had pain every time I had sex. When I did get a period (which ended up being every other month), the cramps were SO bad, and my period was really heavy for a week, then more spotting. My GYN kept telling me to "let my body get used to it" but my condition never changed. At the one year mark, I had that sucker yanked out, and it was the best decision I'd made in a long time.

I spotted for 9 months straight and when it would be around the time i ovulated it felt like i had a kidney infection my lower back hurt so bad it hurt to move. The dr thought i was crazy but i had it out and the pain also went away. This happened the entire 9 months i had it. My sister did spot for 3 months and hasn't had a period for 6 years now because of it, not even when she had it replaced after the 5 years. Its different for everyone id at least wait another month before having it taken out.

I just had mirena placed (12/29) when i had a laprascopy done for adhesions.. i seem really depressed since having it done (also talked to others who had gotten depressed) i had very heavy bleeding so i called my gyn and they said i could of got a infection from having it placed they put my on a antibiotic and now the bleeding has stopped. i love the idea of the 5 yr birth control but not sure if i made the best decision getting it now.. hope it works out for you :)

I bled for a couple of months after getting it, then my periods were regular but really heavy and crampy. I also gained weight. I had less problems with the Mirena than the copper one though. The doc tried to urge me to just give it more time. I gave it 2 years. As soon as it was removed I dropped 8 lbs. I have friends that love theirs, so maybe I am just sensitive to hormones.

I absolutely HATED Mirena!! I had it in for nine months, and spotted every, single day! Sex was really uncomfortable, and i had no libido anyway. I gained about 20lbs, and my skin was a disaster... I would never get it again...

I had Mirena put in 8/23/11, and that was 2 months after I had my daughter. I bled pretty heavily for about 6 or 7 weeks and then it subsided. Now I have spotting almost everyday, especially after intercourse. But I don't hate it, it's way better than releasing hormones throughout my entire body and struggling to get pregnant after using other birth controls. But this is only my opinion, my suggestion is to do your homework if you decide to use a different type of birth control, some of them seem to be doing real damage.

i could not lose any weight on it - no matter what I did - and I know how to lose weight. I did not have a period at all though and really no other side effects - but I'm also very sensitive to the hormone (it's the same as depo-provera which I was on in college with terrible side effects) so I had it removed about 6 months after it was put in.

Within a week I had lost weight and the rest came off quickly and easily...good luck.

i am on my 2nd mirena. Had 1st put in soon after 3rd child was born- bled for quiet a while. 2nd time around did bleed for a bit-I had gotten used to the half a day periods that i had been having occasionally for the past 3 years- so it seemed like I bled forever but it probably wasn't too long. I love love love mine and do not wish to ever have another form of birth control. I would call the doctor and have things checked out to be on the safe side but I honestly believe (unless there is something wrong with it now) you will love it if you give it a chance to do what it does.

Yup, you will bleed abnormally for quite a while. Then you will eventually have little to no period at all. It is totally worth it. I love the Mirena! I'm on my second one and will most definitely continue to get them as they expire. Good luck with yours and your decision to keep it or remove it!

I got mine 5/5/11, six weeks after giving birth. I'm happy with it, but I did bleed for about two months then spotted for another month. Since then my periods have been pretty regular and are getting lighter and lighter. I'm guessing they will stop completely soon.

My doc said what I experienced was pretty normal and most women I know who have had it have reported something similar.
