I have several old pieces of jewelry and some brass candlesticks that I never use. At this time of the year when the kids are killing us with back to school expenses, I think the extra money would be a huge plus, especially since I have no emotional attachment to these pieces. I've heard the advertisements about mailing in your items or going to a local jewelry store. If you've had any experience with this, please let me know what method you used for selling your items and if you have any suggestions on this process. Thanks Moms!!
I agree with some PPs...take it to a local place where they can quote you a specific price before deciding. And get a few quotes!
I really dont know where you can go, but I do know you should stay away from Pawn shops and mail in stuff, try to find a reputable antique shop for your candle sticks or maybe they can sugest a place for you to go.
BUT ABOVE ALL ELSE STAY AWAY FROM PAWN SHOPS AND MAIL IN's they will rip you off
I've never tried to sell anything yet. I've seen the ads for those mail-in people, and I think that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!! lol Yeah sure, I'll mail you $100's worth of gold jewelry, while you MIGHT send me some $$ in return? lol If they did send you something it'd probably be $5. Then what are you gonna do? They've got your stuff!
I recently sold some old, unwanted and broken gold jewelry. I took it to a trusted jeweler and a local coin dealer. I rec'd quotes from both. There was a big difference b/n the two. I would certainly make sure to get a few quotes before doing anything.

I have sold gold and a few pieces of silver jewelry. I have not used a mail in program but there is a company that has a kiosk at our local mall and you can sell it directly to them. I have many good results with them and I have even referred others to them. I have made a little over 200 dollars from just selling a few pieces of unwanted jewelry. I am not sure how the mail in companies are in comparison to this one but if it is anything like the local company I would say go for it. Good luck!
I live in Arkansas and several of our jewelry stores will purchase your old gold, silver and diamonds. Before I sold I went to three different places to find out what they would pay and then back to the 2nd one because they offered me $100 more than the other 2.
I agree with jewelry-get a few quotes first, call the dtores/pawnbrokers, etc. and ask what the price of gold/silver is at, and what they are paying for it. I've never tried the mail0in stuff. As for brass, copper, lead, steel, iron, stainless steel, tin, old washers/dryers/fridges etc. Look under recycling/scrap metals/scrap yards. They will pay you for the above items, just call and ask the price per pound of each metal you want to sell, and "scrap price"(old appliances), some places also pay 10.00 for each old car battery, and will pay for old cell phone, Ni, Li, batteries, so ask about this as well. Yep, I'm a recovering addict, you wouldn't believe the time I had on taking "garbage" to the scrapyard!
