I just discovered yesterday that apparently my oldest son saw saw us last year (I know it was that long because he says it was at our old house and we moved 9 months ago) but he just now told us. My husband kissed me and out of the blue J asked us if we were going to have sex. We asked him what he was talking about and he said he'd seen us. I wanted to die. Especially since it's been long enough I have no idea just exactly what he saw. All he said was that it was at night and he got up to go to the bathroom. Sigh....
We talked to him about it, and that was that. He's not really that curious yet and really couldn't care. We talked to all the kids and reaffirmed the the "knock first" rule.
I have gotten "why is mommy making funny sounds" from my youngest a couple of times. She's the only one home now so my husband and I might try to steal a moment when she's supposed to be napping. They must have radar or something since they ALWAYS need help w/ something, want something, start a fight w/ each other, whatever right when we finally find a moment to be by ourselves.
When I was growing up, my family was pretty open about sex. We were able to ask whatever we wanted unless it got too personal and then my parents wouldn't answer. But the basic questions were covered. And I remember the weekend I came home after my first time (I have no idea how my mother figured it out, I certainly didn't tell either of them) she gave me a big box of condoms. I really could have just disappeared right then.
I did walk in on them once. It was really late at night and there was a very low light on. They'd happened to leave their door open which should have been fine since they were downstairs and on the other side of the house. I don't remember why I was even in the living room (their bedroom was off of it) at that time. I do remember it taking me about 5 seconds to figure it out (I think I was around 12) and beat it out of there! LOL I don't think they even realized I was there.
