We are having a Suprise party for my FIL's birthday. I have the invite's ready. I am think taco bar for food. Any more idea's? Is it tacky to put BYOB on the invitations?
Any guidance for the suprise part?

Let me revise...I assumed the party being casual was expressed when I had the idea of a taco bar and not a 4 course meal. I will not be providing beer for all the guest but I will be telling them to bring their own, either on the invitation or when they call to RSVP. Basically I was just looking for any golf party ideas. Thanks!

What can I do next?

At my husband's recent party, I put on the invitations that I would provide wine and that they could bring any other drink they would like to have. So try to let them know what will be available and that they can BYOB if they choose to. Turns out we only opened one of our bottles because our guests chose to bring and drink their own - which was fine with me!! :)
My husband's party was also a suprise - hmmm - just having everyone there before he arrives, letting him know something is planned, but not the details of the party. Matt thought just he and I were going to dinner - hee hee - all his best friends were there wating for us!
Golf - my dh got the funniest thing for his bday (not sure of the cost) a caddie jumper with his friend's name embroidered on the back. It was hysterical! Pretty sure he got it on-line. You could decorate with golf balls - the kind he uses so he can have them later - & tees in bowls or glasses. I am sure Parties Plus has golf themed stuff and they are pretty reasonably priced.

What a great idea! He will love it! I would probably put BYOB on the invites just bc that can get pricey AND some people like their own kind of beer. People usually expect to bring their own beer to parties. Have a great time!

I suppose it depends on how casual your party is going to be. You know your guests better than anyone on here and would know how well received that request would be.

As for me, I don't go to any party without taking the hostess a bottle of wine so you might end up with some drinks provided.

Personally, I would never say BYOB if I were hosting a party. If it is an economic issue, just serve something else to drink.

You should ask everyone to wear golf attire that would be cute.

Totally okay to put BYOB on your invites. If your friends are your friends... they'll understand that beer is expensive, and any normal person can not afford beer for more than a few people.

I don't think it is tacky to put BYOB on the invites. If you want to you could word it better, such as: We will not be providing alcohol beverages, but will be happy to provide ice and/or storage for anyone who wishes to bring their own. Just my opinion I guess.

I hope I don't offend anyone, but I would not put BYOB either. Like another person said, you could simply say, wine will be provided. Or just do not say anything and only provide wine (or not), soft drinks, tea, etc.. The golf ideas sounds cute and fun! And a taco bar will be a big hit. YUM!
