Donate Electronics in Philadelphia

I recently cleaned out our basement and have a large box full of old printers, digital camera, discman, and other electronics that are outdated but still functional and in good shape. Instead of sending them to the landfill, I would prefer donating them to some organization or recylcing center in the Philadelphia region. Any tips and advice would be great.

What can I do next?

We live in the Interboro school district in Delaware County and the school recycles the electronics. Try getting in touch with your local school district or Ymca or even library. The conditions of our district is that these products need to turn on. I believe that one of the employees of the district refurbishes them and reuses them throughout the district. I know that Goodwill also accepts these items. Just some ideas for ya. Good luck unloading everything. Cell phones can be donated. There is a program out there that refurbishes them and gives them to women in abusive situations simply for the 911 ability.

If you check with your County or municipality there is usually a couple of times a year when you can bring your solid/hazardous waste to a site and they will take it a dispose of it correctly. This of course would be for items that could not be refurbished.
Kudos to you for not just putting out on the curb for trash collection.

look up freecycle. they have people who trade things for free. another thing you can do is may be donate them to a place like arc-association for retarded citizens. they could sell some of the stuff and use the money to train people who have mental impairments.

If none of those work for you, I highly suggest listing it under "free" on http://www.craigslist.org. Unless your main goal is for it to be a charitable donation, then someone on craigslist would probably grab them pretty quickly.

Check out Nonprofit Technology Resources for a place to donate the printers: http://ntronline.org/. I don't know if they accept digital cameras or not.
