I have about 4 old cell phones with chargers and misc accessories. I heard something before about using old phones for maybe battered females or someone less fortunate. I don't want to just throw them away if someone else could get use out of them. Does anyone know what I could do with them?

My daughter and I were at the Philadelphia Zoo last week and they had a drop box in the Rare Animals exhibit to donate old cell phones. Money goes to the Endangered Primate Center in Vietnam, a conservation project funded by the zoo. There are also boxes outside the main entrance to the zoo and in the Primate Reserve.

At our Verizon storefront here in TX they have a box near the customer service section of the store that you can drop off your cell phones and chargers. They program them with emergency numbers and give them to battered women.
I would think that all Verizon places do it.

I haven't heard of those options for cell phones but there is a website called. www.cellphonetradeins.com They give you money based on the value, condition of the phone. I ran into the same problem and then i heard about this website when i purchased my new phone.

Hi, A.. It's nice of you to think of other folks before just throwing the phones away. In Delaware (and I think in all States) there's a Domestic Violence Council. You might want to give them a call to see if there's somewhere near you where you can donate the phone to a woman in need. Take care!

I have seen "drop boxes" in Verizon Wireless stores for the battered womens groups. I am sure anyone at any of the stores could give you info.

most police stations will accept the donations. short cuts hair salon for kids in northeast philly also takes donations. you can also return them to most phone retailers to be donated.
Some pet stores have boxes for old phones and You could always take the battey out and give them to your children for play.

Look on the internet there is an organization that takes old cell phones and trades them for phone cards for our troops so they can call home.

Petsmart has free mailing bags that you can just drop in the mailbox. They help support unwanted animals and shelters.
Hello A.~ I work in Berks County and know that Berks Women in Crisis will take cell phones. I am not sure if they are using the phones to get money to help these women of if they are giving them to them to use in time of need. If you are ever at the Philadelphia zoo, they also take old cell phones. They have a little cell phone recycle box in the front with a picture of a monkey on it.

There are various places that accept old cell phones. A place where I volunteer collects them- Kitty Cottage. I would find an organization you feel strongly about and donate them.

You could certainly contact shelters around your area, but another alternative you can look into is Freecycle.org. This is a group that helps it's members get rid of unwanted items that others may have a use for, so they stay out of the trash. I've been able to donate and find items through this website and it's a great way to give back.

Visit www.wirelessrecycling.com, www.charitablerecycling.ca or www.charitablerecycling.com to help donate an old cell phone or in your case multiple cell phones to support domestic violence prevention programs and charities, nonprofits, and community services.
Our school district ( Palmerton) accepts them and recycles them and the school gets points/dollars for educational supplies.

I donated a bunch omy our old cell phones to verizon. If you go to one of the stores in a mall, they have a drop box that is for battered women. There is also one for the march of dimes. Hope this helps!!....B.
Hi A.. I think the police have a program that takes old phones and gives them to older people how may need help so they can have something to call 911 when in need. Also, I think Sprint used to be the company that would take old phones to give battered women. I know that my children's school takes them to recycle them and the school get's credit towards school supply needs. You may want to check with the school your older son will be going to to see if they have a program like that.
