A Place to Recycle or Properly Dispose of Computer Monitors?

I have 2 or 3 old monitors that don't work anymore and I need to get them out of my house...they are taking up wayyy too much room. Anyone know of somewhere I can take them? NW suburbs preferred.

**edited to add - These are Broken....they do not work, so no one is going to want them to use them, they just need to be disposed of. If they were working, I would not have so many of them sitting around LOL

What can I do next?

You can try freecycle.org - it is a site that people can post items they no longer need, but someone else may.

We take ours to the Kane County Circuit Clerk building on Randall Road in Geneva (behind it). You can look up Kane County Recycling or Kane County Computer recycling to see what the dates are. They take all electronic equipment and even old DVDs and CDs. Cords, headphones, etc.

If you happen to live in Kane County, they do a big recycling dump of all sorts of electronics during certain months of the year...check their website to find out when. You have to bring your electronics down to St. Charles to the Kane County Clerks office, but the line goes super fast. Hope that helps!

A. ~ Also, if your monitors are not very old or outdated check with local schools / park districts /churchs - some will take them as long as they are compatible with their systems.

I heard that Kane County has an electronics recycling program. I would call the county or check online. Maybe you can find something there. Have you tried listing them with FreeCycle? Try Yahoo groups and search for FreeCycle if you don't know about them... it's a group where you can give and receive things to keep stuff out of landfills.

Good Luck!

My dad was actually just researching the same thing...There is a place up by Woodstock that will accept monitors. The only catch is that you have to pay them ($15 I think) to take them. I guess it costs them to dispose of them. I don't know the name of the place, but I'm sure it's in the yellow pages.
