before you recycle you might call the school, a daycare or other non-profit. They might be able to use them.
Hello, I have one monitor and printer that I no longer use, or want, I would like to get rid of it. I tried googling facilities to recycle them but I can't seem to find something specific. Does anyone know where I can recylce a printer/monitor in the Chicago land area, or nearby? Thanks!
THANK YOU LADIES! Many of you asked if they're functional, yes they are. I work in a office, and my boss constantly upgrades, and usually just wants to dump them. I feel bad or guilty letting him do that, so I usually just take them. Some have small problems worth fixing if the person receiving it is getting it for free.
Anywho, I will look into this donating business, if nothing else comes of it I will take to a recycling center I found thanks to you guys!

Best Buy also has a recycle program for various items. It doesn't even matter where you bought it:)
Not sure where you live in Chicago, but Oak Lawn has an e-waste site. They have hours during the week, every week, and some Saturday hours. You can look it up to make sure of the hours. www.villageofoaklawn.org. Then look under the tab Green Team. They take all electronics and some other items that can't and shouldn't go in your everyday trash.
There is a place in Chicago near Elston and Division. They take household products and take electronics once a month or something like that. I cannot remember the exact address. You can google hazardous materials recycing and it should come up. You can also offer it on Craigslist. Some places take used stuff if it is stull working for training or giving to low income until they can get their own. A friend recently got rid of a printer this way.
I would donate them instead of recycle.
One option close by: GreenHome Experts (located on South Blvd just west of the Ridgeland CTA) is helping area high schoolers fund raise for a trip to Spain by collecting old electronics. For more information: http://www.oakpark.com/News/Blogs/03-28-2012/Recycling_ol...
One option in the western suburbs: The City of Wheaton is holding their Annual (and really awesome) Recycling Extravaganza on April 16. For more information: http://www.dupageblog.com/2011/03/wheaton-recycling-extra...
Good luck!
I am baaaadddd I put them out for the trash man. Thing is our trash company won't pick them up but the trash pirates always come through for me. :)
Oh I see you are in Illinois, god I laughed when I heard about your new law. Any chance you have a friend in another state that will let you put them in their trash?
i dont know what kind of area u live in but if we put stuff like that out on the curb for garbage it never lasts long enough for the garbagemen to even see it .. someone ends up coming and getting it .. my dad put out a broken leaf blower the other day and literally 45 minutes later there was a truck parked in front of my house n a guy throwing it in the back..; if u feel bad throwing it out u could try putting them out ona night thats not garbage night just to see if anyone would take them
Today, Saturday the 14th, from 9-12pm the Oak Park high school is accepting all old electronics to raise funds for the school. All you do is pull up and they'll haul it away for you.
Check with your local best buy. Most of them will recycle electronic equipment. I know the one near us only accepts them on certain days though, so call them and ask. If anyone will know I'm sure they will.
If they work, put them on craigslist for free. Youll have more calls than you can handle, and they will be gone in 10 minutes.
I think Best Buy will accept O. electronic per day for recycling, right?

Are they still functional? Will a school or community center take them? Or can you freecycle? Sometimes people will freecycle things for parts.
A lot of cities hold electronics drives several times a year. There are also some charitable organizations that can use them for parts. Sorry I don't specifically know what is in your area but it's a start!
If they work... Donate to a school or women's shelter.
We've donated old computers and printers to the womens shelter when we upgraded our system.
As for something not working, ask Staples, Best Buy, etc
Google e-waste for your area. Some kind of recycling center should come up.
