I am going to have a second opinion to confirm whether I "missed carried". If it is confirmed, can anyone tell me about their experience with having a DNC. If is is true, then this will be my second miscarriage. I did not have a DNC with my first and did it naturally. Boy was it painful.
For those who have had it, any complications?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses. Went for a second opinion and the doctors confirmed that I mis-carried. I went ahead with the D&C and am feeling okay. No complications.

No, no complications, but I saw this website this past week on this site. I went to it because I too have had two MC's and am 21 weeks along now and still very nervous. It sounds like they suggest a 2nd and sometimes 3th opinion and/or letting it just occur naturally. I had a DNC with my first and it was a very small outpt procedure. I was in and out with no problems, but after reading this, I wish I would have waited. I guess one just never knows, but it was my first experience with this news and I really didn't know what to do. My second MC came naturally. We sorta knew it would happen, but were not definite. That was more scarier that walking into the hospital for the DNC, but I still feel after reading this website that I should have probably waited and just let it happen, if the DR said it would just happen anyhow.

Good luck!

Be sure to check out the website http://www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com/ if you haven't already. Also, in case you do decide to go through w/ the procedure, I had one abt 9 months ago and it went really smoothly w/ no complications. There was minimal bleeding for a couple of days and I had to take 2 days off work and rest. Personally, if you really have miscarried, I would recommend it over letting things pass naturally.
Good luck!

I can sympathize with you. I have dealt with miscarriages both ways as well. The DNC is not that bad and is much more preferable to waiting on mother nature to do it. It is not as painful as the natural passing either. Usually the doctor will give you a little sedative before the procedure, then the DNC will take about 30 - 45 mins. You will experience some cramping, (very similar to really bad period cramps) and bleeding for a couple of weeks.

Hi M.,

I hope your won't need this, but if you do, a D&C (dilation and Curettage(sp) is a cleaning of the uterus. You will be given a sedative to help relax. The procedure usually last appxt. 30minutes - 1 hour. You may experience some cramping for a day or so (the doctor will give you a prescription/ ask for one). Maybe even a week. There well be some bleeding, light or heavy. It depends on how your menstal cycle is.

I hope the information is helpful, but not needed.

Good Luck,

Tiff
