Dictator Hugo Chavez Is Dead at 58 - Reston,VA

How do you think this will affect the rest of the world?

Who do you think will run for "President" of Venezuela? Do you think it will continue to be a Socialist nation or do you think now that he is dead - with his charisma and "ego" it will go by the way-side?

I know he had millions of supporters. I was not one of them (go figure). However, with the world being in the chaos it is in right now - do you think this will tip any scales or will it matter?

What can I do next?

A glimpse of his character can be obtained from the people he considered like minded, brilliant "brothers": Saddam Hussein, Alexander Lukashenko, Saddam Hussein, Bashar al-Assad, Muammar Gaddafi, Carlos the Jackal...

The company people keep speaks volumes.

So are you trying to stir the pot?

I'm sorry that I don't have any intelligent input on this one...I try to be as unpolitical as I can these days (with a few very obviously exceptions!)

I just wanted to share that I misread your title several times, thinking it said "Director Hugo Chavez is dead at 58" and spent the last 10 minutes trying to think why that name sounded familiar and if I had watched any of his movies. It's that kind of night...go figure. ;)

well, apparently the Venezuelan government has mobilized their military and police force, so I would expect there to be some sort of fireworks happening. Praying they don't have a civil war. Hoping his $2 billion estate is distributed to his people, in the spirit of his hypocritical policies.

This is NOT meant to be a political site. But since you ask, for those who have been watching the whole Chavez illness role out....He's been dead (for all intents and purposes for a very long time). His country will give him a funeral befitting a dictator (Evita Peronish) and then the politicians who have been in place for a long time will continue business as usual.

I had a friend I worked with from Venezuela. I certainly hope things change for them. May God help them and be his final judge.

i hope it means that some form of democracy will take over. what we who enjoy a democratic society tend to forget, though, is how ugly and messy and bloody young democracies are.
benevolent (and not so benevolent) dictators have the considerable benefit of squashing violent and dissident factions. for the average joe, having peace and stability can feel a lot better than violence and chaos. a lot of russian citizens long for the 'good old days.'
i do think this will tip the scales. venezuela is up-and-coming on the world stage, and if it gets democratized it could be very significant. no clue how it will play out, though.

I'm sure there are things going on behind the scenes with various governments that are concerned with who'll take power that we have no clue about. The vacuum of power caused by his death won't be there for long. The people don't seem too upset, though. Can't say as I blame them.

I think it's going to be the exact same. Just like when Castro got sick.
His VP (is he now the president?) is claiming that the US or his enemies "gave" him cancer.
WTH? Conspiracies everywhere!
How do you give someone cancer.
I am going to call KARMA.
