Has anyone else been denied a permanent birth control procedure because the doctor thinks they know what you need better than you do?

What can I do next?

my name is jenn and i have two children as well. i also stay home whith the youngest. i spoke to my doctor about not wanting to have anymore children, and she recommended an IUD. i had one put in and it can stay in up to 5 years. she told me that after that time if i still didnt want anymore children that she then would do a tubal. i feel that this was a very good choice. as far as being too young, i am 34. hope you find some peace with this info.

from what i've heard, a lot of doctors will not tie your tubes until you're at least 25 (later if you don't have at least 2 kids). i could be wrong though...

ANYTHING can happen, you can change your mind. My cousin has 3 boys abd was married, she thought her life was set, and had her tubes tied when she was in her 20's. now shes in her 30's getting re-married, and is gonna shell out $25,000 to get her tubal reversed! Honestly you never know what will happen down the road, so drs do it for your benifit actualy.

I can so relate to your problem. I have 2 boys neither planned both very hard pregnancie for me I was very sick. I asked my doctor to tie my tubes after my second son since I was on birth control when I got pregnant both times. Answer of course was no I was only 23.
Now I am pregnant with my third was on birth control at time of conception and have no idea how we are going to afford a third child we are barely making ends meet. I am against abortion though so here we go again. This time I demanded they tie my tubes and told the insurance company and doctor I would sue them if they denied me.
It worked for me hopefully the idea will help you.

I was 24 when I had my youngest and I asked it be done while he was in there already since I was having a c-section. He didn't want to do it saying I was till too young. Plus, since even at the birth I was a single mom, he said one day I may want to have one more child to start another family.

I had to fight with doctors when I chose to tie my tubes at 21,and then I had a hystrectomy at 30 and fought again. I have found that if you go in with a calm attitude and present your resons for wanting this done, you can usally swy the doctor. If all else fails get another doctor. Some one will do it. Good luck

Hi R.,
And yes I sure was. I wanted my tubes tied at the ripe old age of 18 years old. They told me I was to young. I didn't think so but they sure did. I once again had a child at the age of 24, she wasn't planned. None the less I love her very much. Before my daughter was born I begged to have my tubes tied and once again he told me no. He told me to come back at the age of 25, I did. Once again his answer was no, wait till your 30 you may change your mind. Fact of the matter is I have not changed my mind since I was 18 years old. Yes I had a second child and like I said she was not planned. Anyhow if I were you I would go to a different doctor. That's what I did and that was the best choice I ever made. Im now 33 years old, I have two healthy children which Im thankful for and I know now that I will never have another pregnancy. Mom of two and it's staying that way. Best of luck to you.

When I was 20 and had given birth to our 2nd child I begged for the doctor to tie my tubes. I had already had 2 miscarriages and had 2 healthy children after really complicated pregnancies. They refused to tie my tubes. The doctor felt I was to young and the insurance wouldn't cover it because of my age. I got pregnant off 2 different forms of the pill too. So after begging and begging and them telling me no you don't get pregnant no matter what we feel your messing up taking your pills. Even though I knew there was no way...The doctor felt the Depo Shot would be the best thing for me since there was no way "I" could mess up taking it. Well I went on the Depo and gained 50 pounds and still got pregnant! And again had an extremely complicated pregnancy. I found a new doctor and after reading my history, seeing what kinds of pregnancies I had the paper work was signed by the time I was 4 months pregnant with our youngest daughter for my tubes to be tied. Honestly I don't regret it at all and I was only 22 years old. Now granted due to all the complications, problems, etc I'm facing a hysterectomy and again I'm fighting the insurance company to pay for it because at 33 years old they feel I'm to young for the proceedure. I can honestly say none of our children were planned but neither me or my husband could ever picture a day with out them!

I have been denied. I am trying to get Essure I am 18 and I can not get anyone to agree to perform the procedure on me. I do not want children neither does my fiance. My mind has been like this since I can remember and he says his is as well. I am determined to find a doctor who will respect my wishes. Does anyone know of any?

i was not denied because of age...but denied on the way it was to be performed. I had ablation last year and somehow convinced the insurance company to have it done laproscopic...but must go back and have another....parts of uterus were missed. For me it was the only option or a complete hysterectomy.

This happened to me. By the time I was 20, I had two children and I wanted to have my tubes tied. My doctor refused because he thought I was too young. I really didn't think I wanted any more children, but nine years later, I gave birth to my son who is now 8 months old. I really can't imagine our lives without him, and I'm glad the doctor refused.

If you really don't think you want anymore children, you can always go to a different doctor. If you are really persistent in what you want, the doctors will eventually do it.
