I am working on making a Christmas gift, which includes birthstones. I can't find a straight answer for what the December birthstone is. I have found modern, tradtional, and all kinds of aother charts. (Even chain jewelry stores are different from eachother.) The three I've seen are Blue Topaz, Turqiouse, and Blue Zircon. If you have a December birthday (or are familiar with birthstones) which is the most common stone? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Megan - garnet is January.

Thanks, I think I'm going with Blue Topaz!

March is Aquamarine, fyi. December is Blue Topaz. As we March babies know, they are NOT interchangeable. :)

You can choose your favorite, or whatever looks best in the setting! My sibling prefers the Blue topaz, but my parent prefers turquoise.

I am a jewelry designer and I have worked in a large chain diamond store :)

The most common is the blue topaz, blue zircon, turquoise and then the tanzanite (the rarest). I had a London blue topaz and a few loose tanzanites to be set into earrings one day.

it is blue topaz. it is a turquoise color but not actual "turquoise" the stone so maybe somebody got that messed up. I think the others (blue zircon and tanzanite) have been used as higher end replacements.
As an April baby I feel somewhat jipped in the birthstone department. Unless you go colored (which technically wouldn't be the birthstone) a diamond doesn't stand out as a birthstone. Everyone has them. If people see you with another stone they might wonder or ask if its your birthstone but if you are wearing diamonds you're just "blingin'."

Here's a link from the American Gem Society, seems like a pretty good source, and it includes some history :)

My son was born in December and when I had birthstone jewelry made for myself it was always with Blue Topaz, which I've always heard/seen was December's stone.

Blue Topaz is December's birthstone...blue zircon is sometimes used as a less expensive version and sometimes, especially for guys, turquoise is also used. Ironic since my daughter's birthstone is this one and it's blue while my son's is Opal and/or Pink Zircon.

My son has an April birthday, my ex was considering a mother's ring for a gift. I said don't kid yourself, it is a diamond!! Always go with traditional in my opinion, modern is the cheap version. :p

Okay I sit corrected, the more expensive ones seem to show up on the modern charts more.

My mom always said that December was Aqua Marine. Her birthday is December 26th.
