Last weekend we went to visit my DH best friend and his family in IA. His wife had the most amazing wedding ring set I have ever seen! It was a tanzanite stone set in a white gold band. I think the stone itself was about 2 carats. Then she had a seperate wedding band (white gold) with 5 diamonds behind it. I absolutely loved i! I am so in love with that ring, i am thinking of getting one for myself. How many of you know someone who has done a non traditional wedding ring set?

What can I do next?

i just went to a wedding where the bride and groom Made each others rings!
they were just simlpe bands, but they went to a place that showed them how to melt the metal and hammer and shape the rings!
they spent most of the day doing it!

My mom lost the diamond out of her engagement ring in her traditional wedding set (diamond solitaire and gold wedding band) and instead of replacing the diamond she got a single white gold band with diamond and sapphire stones (mine and my sister's birthdays). She loves it!

I don't have a set, just one ring, and it is non-traditional. I love it because I think it looks elvish, like Lord of the Rings. It has a line of diamonds down either end and in the middle are differently shaped diamonds and white gold curlicues. Cheaper than a regular wedding band and much prettier, in my opinion.

I had an emerald ring surrounded by diamonds. It was stolen in 2004 and we have had a hard time replacing it. It was Marquis cut - about 1.1 carats and the shank of the ring has emerald baguettes. I got compliments on it ALL the time.

Tanzanite is a VERY soft stone. One wrong hit CAN shatter it. I own a pear shaped Tanzanite ring with diamonds along the shank. Thank God I have it insured - I did hit it once - cracked it right in two.

You need to think about how you live your life and what you do before you chose the center stone you want in a ring set. If you are ROUGH and never take your rings off - then Tanzanite is NOT the stone for you.

Sapphires come in all colors - purple, blue, yellow, white, etc. and are harder than Tanzanite. Diamonds are the hardest.

Good luck!!!

I do still have my original, traditional wedding set. It is in my jewelry box.

When our daughter passed away, we replaced it with a sapphire & diamond ring. It's been 19 years & I still LOVE my 2nd ring.

& best of all...when we bought it, neither of us noticed the significance of our choice. My older son was born on my bd - Sept 7th...& our daughter was born on Sept 23rd. Sapphire is the birthstone for Sept. There are a total of 7 sapphires: 1 large marquis in the center, & 3 emerald-cut baquettes on each side, running down the band. These 7 stones represent my son's BD. Then there are 16 diamonds surrounding the central stone. 7+16=23....our daughter's BD! Totally unplanned, 100% perfect. :)

Well, that is until our younger son was born. He's a July BD...so at some point, I want to add a ruby/diamond anniversary band.... Just haven't found what I want.

I have a peridot stone for my engagement ring. It is my birthstone and my Grandmoms. I love it and it reminds me of her! After watching the movie Blood Diamond I would never want a diamond.

I wear a claddagh ring. We replaced our old ones after we went though a rough time in our marriage to "start anew". He lost his claddagh ring so he's back to the old gold band until we find it.

My husband and I have matching 'art' bands, made by a local craftswoman. They each have Mt Hood, a little house, pine trees and then, they differ slightly. Mine is 'night': moon, a wee diamond for a star, bats. His is 'day': sun, a wee 'morning star' diamond and birds.

The rings are bright and fun and unique to us, without being flashy. (We aren't 'flashy' kinda folk.) The artist said she'd never done a house before, but boy... we are attached to this house!

We love our rings because they symbolize the things/places we love best: home, nature and the Pacific Northwest. I also wear a moonstone on an different finger; this ring was to celebrate the arrival of our son into our lives.

ETA: I agree with Cheryl O. about the functionality of rings in one's life. I take my rings off a lot because of housework and gardening.

i lost my engagement ring on a camping trip years ago. on our 20th anniversary my dh told me to find a new one, a nice one. that we'd bend our rules and use credit to get one i loved. i haven't found one yet, but am leaning toward a tanzanite solitaire.

I actually had a large emerald, emerald cut of course with diamonds surrounding it in white gold for my engagement ring and my actual wedding ring was a white gold band with emeralds and diamonds in it. I LOVED it.

But when my father died my mother gave me the family heirloom wedding ring. I don't think she liked my "different" wedding ring. So now I have a white gold wedding ring with a true blue diamond that is surrounded by diamonds and a band that is soldered to it that also has diamonds set around it.

I love my mom's wedding ring but sometimes I wish I could wear my original wedding ring. My husband understands that my father gave this to me by telling my mother to give it to me before he died though and I think of my father whenever I see it. So he understands why I wear it. I just never thought I'd be the kind of girl who'd have anything even somewhat resembling a traditional wedding ring.

My engagement ring is a small diamond in a heart shape. My wedding band is a band of amethyst (my birthstone). For our first anniversary, I got a wrap for my engagement ring that has aquamarine stones (my husband's birthstone). My bands are all white gold as I do not care for yellow gold.

Most people who I come into close contact with notice and ask about the stones meanings since it's a different look. I've never gone with the crowd and I am not a jewelry fan, so it has to carry some meaning for me to like and wear it. :)

If you like it, get it. Don't care what we think about it! I trust your idea IS awesome!

As long as you have SOMETHING, even it's a yellow twist-tie, on your left ring finger, you're married. That's the only message that we should care about what others think.

My wedding band and engagement ring cost about $200 for the set and I LOVE them. They didn't come as a set but you would never know. They are white gold, and the engagment band has little heart cut out of the band next to the dimond, and the wedding band has a small diamond in the shape of a heart sitting in a larger white gold heat that has little diamonds around it.
