Hi mommas,
I'm due with #2 soon and am thinking of switching to cloth diapers. I just get sick when I think of how much waste I have gone through with my son. Any recommendations? Which brands do you like the best? How about the all in ones? Any helpful advise would be great. I looked on-line and was a little overwhelmed.....

What can I do next?

I would look at www.kangacare.com for rump a rooz :) They are the cutest and the owner is great to work with and local in Colorado... As for a store there is a fantastic store in Littleton that is called Sweet Beginnings they deal with cloth diapers too and she is wonderful.. There is a store in Denver and Lakewood and I would stay away from both of those the owners are one of the worst I have ever dealt with..
Good luck and Sweet Beginnings will really help you :)

I've been using Bum Genius for two years now, on two kids. They are great, very cost effective. They don't work great when they are small. For newborns, I recommend Kissaluvs or fitted diapers, Fuzzi Bunz are nice.

It is very overwhelming. I'd look at Yahoo and see if you can't find a cloth diapering group, where you could go and see for yourself all your options. Another thing you can do is order a "sample" packet of diapers from online venders, letting you try them out before deciding what you need for your stash.

Good luck!

Oh, I just bought a Rumparooz One Size Pocket Diaper. I LOVE it!

I really like the TinyTush all-in-ones. They are one size diapers and I really like them. Cloth diapers really aren't as bad as you think. :) The tiny Tush are almost exactly like the bum genius, but they are a little taller (have one more extra row of snaps than the bum genius so they fit a bigger variety of sizes) and then in the back where you insert the insert, the covering is a little different and not as open as on the bum genius, so you don't get poop going down into the insert area. So there are only a few differences, but they are nice. My boys really like them too! My two year old boy loves them and if I ask him if he likes them he always says yes. Whenever we put disposables on him now he'll take them off within 10 minutes if we don't put his pants back on (or sometimes even if we do).

One thing though, is my son is REALLY tall for his age, and so I'm not sure, height wise, how much longer these will work for him. So I've also been looking at the Thirsties, they have the all-in-ones in two sizes. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck! :)

I would strongly recommend the SposoEasy All in 1. We also used the Bummis Whisper Pants cover over cotton diapers. I tried hemp diapers to and they worked great on my son but my daughter’s skin was just too sensitive for the hemp and that’s when we found the SposoEasy. They have a great feature. There is a little pocket that you slide the Velcro into for washing. Sounds like a no big deal feature but after a few washes the Velcro can lose its hold and the pocket makes them last so much longer. XS is perfect size for newborns and lasts up to 10 lbs. The small size goes from 10 to 20 lbs. And then they go up by 10s from there. Good luck and thanks for considering the environment not just for your children but for mine as well!

Check out your local green stores for great local products. My all-time favorite cloth diapers are made by a mom local to our area (they're called Tinkle Traps) and I use them with Bummis Covers. I'll bet you will be able to find some cool local products, and if your shops are anything like mine, they may even offer cloth diapering classes to help you decide what is right for your and your baby.

When it comes to the national all-in-one brands, I really like Bum Genius one-size-fits-all. They fit securely around the legs, have plenty of absorption, and are easy enough to find, too. One more note - cloth diapering gets easier with time. Don't freak out if you don't get it perfectly right away. Check out Mothering Magazine - the most recent issue has a great article on different types of cloth diapers. Good luck!

I bought one-size fits all (which was really after about 3 month and even then they were big). If I were to do it again, I would buy cloth diapers (probably fuzzibunz or something similar) that are in small sizes and use them while they're young and not eating solids and then switch to disposable after they begin really relying on solids (when the messy diapers get really icky!). Good luck, it is incredibly overwhelming!

I love love love my Bumgenius 3.0. they are the one size fits all. Easy to use easy to wash. I would also recomment fuzzibunz, you would have to decide if you would rather have velcro or snaps.

One BIG TIP OF ADVICE: Bumgenius makes a small hand held diaper sprayer (like a power washer) that hooks up (really simply) the the side of your toilet. No matter what kind of cloth diaper you decide on I feel like this is a must, it makes using cloth so easy and a lot less yucky. you just hold the soiled diaper over the toilet, spray everything off into the toilet bowl, flush and, drop your diaper in your pail until wash time!

I loved the cottonbabies.com website, they do lots of comparisons for you. mostly I read other people's feedback about the diapers they used.

I use mostly bumgenius on size or all in ones. THe AIO's take forever to dry is my only complaint. Cloth is easy. Pretty much the only difference is extra laundry. Not a big deal.

Fuzzi Bunz size Medium, or their one-size (which is basically a medium but with these fancy adjustable elastics). So easy, comfy, and they look really cute.

I used disposeables until she fit the medium, so I didn't have to buy two sets of cloth. My daughter got rashes from cotton diapers, so the fleece-lined Fuzzi Bunz are great for her.

I have used Fuzzi-Bunz and love them. My son is 17 months old and we have never had any isssues with spillage or blow outs or whatever. We put him in a night time disposible at night though - becuase he would wake up with a wet diaper all the time in the cloth ones. To me, that is the great things about cloth - they do feel somewhat wet. I believe this will help with potty training later and not having a 2-3 year old in diapers. (but this is my first, so I am not speaking from experience there)

I use Vaska detergent, and wash them every day. No problems. We love them. It's way better than running to the store all the time too - you always have diapers - you just have to wash them!! (don't have to get out of your PJs for that washer!!)

Good luck.

It is really overwhelming. I remember sitting at my computer and researching diapers for hours upon hours!

I highly recommend theclothdiaperwhisperer.com for all of your questions. They were my bible when I first started using cloth. They cover all the different kinds of diapers and give great, easy to follow explanations. It's true that you really should try a few different kinds of diapers before you commit to buying a ton of one brand or type.

I prefer the prefold diapers (which are like the old fashioned kind) with a cover (looks like a disposable, but isn't) when the baby is little.
When the baby gets bigger I like the one size diapers (looks like a disposable, but has an insert to soak up the pee). I really like my SmartiPants and my Bumboo Pocket by Baby Kicks USA. SmartiPants is running a sale through Father's day. They have 3 diapers and inserts for $36.95. It's a FANTASTIC price and I really do love their diapers. If you have a Twitter account, ____@____.com always Tweet about special coupon codes. You can follow most any diaper manufacturer on Facebook too. A lot of them will answer your questions if you post on their Wall. And if the manufacturer doesn't, other Moms will.
Generally speaking, the moms in the cloth diapering community will go out of their way to help you and answer any questions you might have.

I haven't used this Diaper Service yet, but my mother used Tidee Didee Diaper Service about 15 years ago and they're still in business today. Pricing is reasonable for the service that's provided at aprox. $75 a month for 70 diapers a week. I've also hears that the G diapers are the best 'shell' to use rather than diaper pins, but again I personally haven't used either yet, but Tidee Didee and the G diaper are what I'll be using. Good Luck!

Hi I used prefolds and kissiluvs with a thirsties cover until my son was about 4 months old, then we we used a combination of fuzzi buns, and happy heineys, and rumparooz all in one pocket diapers. I love the pockets because they dry easier and you can adjust how much stuffing you need. My favorites were probably Happy Heineys and rumparooz for fit around the thighs. I would suggest trying different brands too because you will find the ones that work best for you. I also purchased some used diapers from giggeling green bean in Denver. They have a used bin and you can sanitize them in the sun and with some bac-out. We have two great brick and morter stores locally the giggeling green bean in Denver and Eco-politan in Lakewood. These stores both offer cloth diaper colleges which go through all of the options and the owners and salespeople are very knowledgeable. You will become addicted to cloth! I have saved so much money and saved so much from the landfill!
