We are in the market to buy diapers for my grandchild. My daughter and I have narrowed it down to 4 different kinds: 2 organic and 2 not organic.
We would like opinions on these diapers from mothers who have used them or know of others who have used them.
Baby Greens
BumGenius
Fuzzi Bunz
Bumkins

Thanks for the opinions

I have BumGenius AIO Organic and really like them but they don't work for us overnight. I have to use the BumGenius 3.0 pockets with both microfiber inserts for overnight, I have a 3 mo. boy. The AIO's do take a while to dry compared to the pockets too. But if they stain, hanging them in the sun bleaches them perfectly.
I've heard good things about Fuzzi Bunz b/c of the snaps, some older babies pull on the velcro of other diapers.
some sites like Jillian's Drawers let you try different styles for a few weeks then send back what you don't like.
Good luck

Any chance you have to avoid pesticides and chemicals, I would. Organic cotton has none of that and it is not genetically engineered. New babies face so many chemicals nowadays from vaccines and what is in them, to BPA and phthalates in their bottles and pacifiers. as well as the lining of formula cans. I have heard good things about all these diapers.

I've been using Bum Genius AIOs since my son was about a month old and I love them. They are really easy to use - and my husband loves them which I think says a lot! I ordered mine from Cotton Babies and when I recently had a problem with the velcro tabs, they replaced all of the diapers. The one downside that I have found is that it takes 2 drying cycles to get them dry. Otherwise, they are great.

I would recommend trying a few different brands - order one of each - to see how they fit on your grandchild. I tried Fuzzi Bunz initially and they just did not fit right. Some AIOs fit better than others. Also, some are true AIOs (no insert needed) while others are pocket diapers. Some people like the insert, others don't. Good luck!

Hi M.,

We have been using BumGenius 2.0's and 3.0's for a little over 2 months now and I love them. We also use prefolds with Bummis Superbrite wraps, I love them both. I have never had a problem with any of them leaking but I should note that I put a disposible on my son overnight. He uses cloth for naptimes and doesn't have a problem. I highly recommend the diaperswappers website. I have bought about 20 diapers and inserts from there in the last month and haven't had a problem. If you are the handy sort, you can buy the one's that need the elastic replaced around the leg (and it is SUPER easy to fix--they have tutorials on there)and save alot of money. I think out of my entire stash only 4 are brand new diapers. So good luck!

bumgenius all the way. the pocket diaper, with the inserts, onesize. These dry and wash up faster than all in ones. check out cottonbabies.com for info. or use the disposables until the peanut is about 12-15 pounds and fits the all inones really well.

happy diapering

I cloth diaper, but I don't use AIO's. I would recommend checking out Diaper Pin. They are a site that is dedicated to cloth diapering.

Not on the list, but have you checked out G-diapers! No chemicals and are biodegradable! I am very excited to use them on our new little one we are adopting. They get great reviews. - Not speaking from experience, just from my research!

Good luck!

I've cloth diapered 5 kids on the cheap- of the systems you mentioned the only ones I have much personal experience with are Fuzzibunz and some hand-me-down Bumkins covers, not AIO.

I liked the Bumkins covers, they do have the sharp velcro edges though so if baby gets to have a really fat belly that overlaps the diaper when sitting, they are not as comfortable as the Fuzzibunz. And those are the covers, not the AIOs.

I would not call Fuzzibunz an AIO system either. They are pocket style diaper covers that you stuff with an insert, or you can use them like normal diaper covers. I have been very pleased with them for older babies! They can also be big money savers as you don't have to stuff them with a premade insert, you can use a prefold, old dishtowels, rags, you name it. I have also been pleased with how well they've lasted in the wash and as hand-me-downs, granted my kids use them a little less than someone who was cloth diapering full-time and not doing elimination communication as well. We use elimination communication or EC, along with cloth diapering. EC can reduce the size of your diaper investment and the number of poops that have to be wiped off the baby's bum. http://www.diaperfreebaby.org/ EC can also speed toilet learning- my youngest is not yet 21 months and does all her poops and about 50% of her pee in the potty now, my other daughter we did this with was using the toilet exclusively by 22 months- my son took longer and wasn't reliable until after age 2.

I'm also not sure I'd like the Fuzzibunz as well for a newborn, since they poop so much more frequently- you would need a new diaper cover for every poop- I think you'd need at least 16 newborn size covers, although that's not a huge investment if you figure you'd need at least that many AIO's!

HTH a little!

Also, unless you really want to spend significant moolah- if you buy AIO's you are probably going to spend a lot more than you would for covers in different sizes and prefolds that your daughter could use throughout baby's toilet learning.

I just sampled the Bum Genius AIo organic to possibly add to my store. I can keep you posted on how they are. Fuzzi Bunz area very popular diaper. They are sized by weight but the medium size will last a long time. I have a similiar dfiaper called Knickernappies Disposanot which is also a very food diaper. Bumkins is also popular are you looking to do pre-folds? Bum Genius makes some great diapers. It is good to get a variety. I have several inmy stash because it depends on where you are going with the baby , how long you may be without changing etc. I send the easier to use ones to church nursery, I use a Wahmies at night b/c my daughter can't undo the hooks, I have to keep the Wahmies away from my husband and have a stash of velcro closures for him to use etc.. Let me know if you have other questions

We tried BumGenius and Fuzzi Bunz and I didn't like either one. They both had a tendency to leak out the legs no matter how tight I fastened them, plus they got build up easily and smelled or repelled even though I washed them carefully and stripped them often. I found prefolds and covers, or fitteds and covers, so much easier and leak proof!

Of the ones mentioned we have used both Fuzzi Bunz and Bum Genius. We have ended up using FB pretty much exclusively and have yet to purchase disposable diapers.

With FB I love the adjustable snaps. They have held up very well with all the washing and have minimal staining. (We do follow the recommendation of a rinse in baking soda 1st . We don't do any pre-soaking prior to putting them in the diaper pail). There is also plenty of room for doublers to keep my daughter dry during the night. She is 13 months old now and wearing the medium (she has been in these since 6 months of age). We are able to put 2 doublers (so 3 total inserts) in her diaper and she sleeps through the night and only has a bit of leakage onto her jammies when she has a really really soaked diaper (rare). We have yet to experience a diaper rash. We gave the small size to some friends to use and they had plenty of wear left.

We did try a variety of cloth diapers when she was born. I had purchased a one-size All In One Bum Genius that was too bulky to use when she was smaller. Since then we have used this diaper occasionally and have liked the fit. I have not used at night and so do not have any opinion on how it works at night or with additional inserts. We did discover, however, that she can take this one off very easily b/c of the velcro and have ended up with a diaper-less baby on a few occasions. This has limited use of this diaper for us.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi M.,

From your list, I used the BumGenious 2.0 and the Fuzzi Bunz. I also used prefolds and covers. I found the BG's to be my top favorite because of the ease of use. When I told my husband I wanted to try cloth diapering, he was very nervous and thought it would be challenging. Because the BG's were AIO it made diaper changing so simple for him.

I liked the FB's too when I had the diapers pre-stuffed. I only say this because I wanted to make the diapering simple for my husband. I found that if I hadn't pre-stuffed them, I would simply use a prefold and the FB like a cover instead. They worked great for us.

I suggest seeing if you can purchase a sample pack of those diapers before spending a lot of money on just one. I know for us, I have a variety of favorites and like being able to switch out.

http://www.diaperswappers.com is a great place to find and sell gently used cloth diapers.

Peace,
J.

It's a bit overwhelming isnt it? Almost too many choices. Like the other one said, it's a good idea to have several different kinds around. I had a friend that let me borrow hers for a while to see how I liked Imsy Vimsy brand covers and the inserts were happy heinys.
It depends too on the stage of feeding that the baby's at. If the baby's breastfed only, it's wise to buy the double gusset diapers. If the baby's formula fed, then a regular one would most likely work. When the baby transitions to food, you don't need the double gusset as the BM is firmer.
Funzi Bunz are awesome, but expensive. They are not too great when used on an infant in the early months being only breastfed as the poo leaks out a bit(need that doubble gussett). Bumgenius is cost effecient for an AIO, but not as "comfy" as the fuzzy bunz in my opinion.
I bought most of mine at www.jilliansdrawers.com and you can try a variety of cloth fiapers for only $10 for several weeks and if you like them, you get a discount, if not just send them back and it only cost you $10! A great way to try some out.
There is also, the Gdiapers, that are part disposable and many people like them when the baby is eating solids as the liner just pulss out and you flush the whole thing down the toilet.
Good luck! I love my cloth!

The only one on your list that I've used is Fuzzi Bunz (but as far as I know they don't make an all-in-one, they are pocket diapers which are super easy...but maybe I just haven't seen the all-in-ones).

The Fuzzi Bunz (FB) doesn't fit my daughter real well. I can't snap the legs tight enough around her so they do gap a little. But a lot of people love them.

I would like to add one more option to your list if you are willing to consider pockets. They are called Pocket Change. They're by far the trimmest cloth diaper we've tried which is nice for finding pants that fit over them. Also, you don't have to remove the insert prior to washing them like you do with most pocket diapers, it agitates out in the wash. So for super messy diapers or when daddy forgets to pull out an insert its no big deal.

http://www.diaperpin.com/home.asp is a great place to find reviews.

http://www.diaperswappers.com/ is also a good place for reviews and buying used diapers if you're okay with that

Feel free to send me a private message if you need any info. I love my cloth diapers and I'm so excited to hear your daughter is going to be using them!

I thought they were a bit complicated. My son uses Nature Babycare diapers that are like Huggies and all, but they completely biodegrade in 50-150 days because there is no plastic.

We love them. They work really well.

Welcome to the world of CDing. There are so many choices out there that will fit you life style. Before I talk about the ones on you list let me make one very important comment...do not buy a whole stash of these diapers until you have tried them first. I would buy one or two and see if you like them b/c they may look good on the computer, in a magazine, or at the store, but until you actually put one on your lo you will not know if it is going to work. Just b/c it is cloth does not mean every diaper will fit the same. Just like sposies...not ever brand of diaper is the same. They just fit different.

Okay, AIO (all in ones) take a LONG time to dry. They are good dipes, but take at least 2 drying cycles in the dryer. BumGenius (or BG) fit well, but don't be pulled into the one size b/c my son could not wear these after 18 months. I have heard this from a lot of mamas. Fuzzi Bunz (FB) are very nice pocket dipes. Easy to use, stuff, and wash. These are def. a good dipe.

I saw a mama mention Pocket Change. These are very good pocket dipes also.

I could really go on about CDing, but I don't want to take up too much room here. Please send me a message if you have any questions. I have been CDing for a while and have used a wide range of dipes (made out of different materials).

A GREAT source to learn more about dipes is www.diaperswappers.com go here and ask other mamas questions. You can also buy dipes here and find mamas that will make you custom dipes just for your lo. I am there all the time. You can get some great deals. You can spend over $50 for a good dipe, but you can also find a great dipe for around $15-$20 (which is my price range). Also, if you go with FB, I have a discount code that I can give you that will give you 10% off your purchase on a particular website.

Good luck! Fluffy tushies are so cute!!
