I have the Paragard Copper IUD because I did not want the hormones from the Mirena and I absolutely love it!
Can anyone tell me when I can expect to feel normal enough to entertain the idea of sex again. I am so far not too happy with this Mirena. I got it installed 5/6/11 and I am still spotting and if I'm not spotting its just yuckiness and its constant. I feel like I should buy stock in Tampax and Always. I called the doc again about a month ago and he prescribed me birth control pills for 2 months to take to stop the bleeding, not working. I am at the end of my rope with this, unless someone can tell me it will get better.

I hate Mirena, have NOTHING good to say about it except this: you'll feel 100% normal again about 5 days after it's removed :)
Maybe talk to your doc about switching to the paragard copper IUD. I have it and there's no hormones and I haven't had any problems. My sister has the mirena and now at almost 3 years its fi.ally getting better. She's gained weight, constant pms and hot flashes. It may just not work for you. Good luck mama!
From what I've heard some people just don't do well with mirena you sound like one of those people. If I were you I would have it removed.
I just got it too in August. My doctor did tell me you could spot upto 3 months so hopefully you will stop soon. I have found that some people have horrible reactions to it and others love it. A good friend of mine loved it so much she convinced me. I have to say after a month I haven't had any other side affects (no break outs, no weight gain, no cramps, etc) except for the spotting which is heavier when I work out. Good luck - I would definitely hang in there for a few more months since you already have come this far.
I'm sorry to say that I was never able to fully escape the Mirena spotting problem. I had it initially, as expected, and then it did go away for a few months - only to return with a vengeance. I spotted every day after that until I finally had it removed at about the 10 month mark. Apparently in some women it keeps the uterine lining TOO thin (which, according to my doc, was my problem) and that is what causes the constant spotting. The spotting immediately stopped when I had it removed. The same day I had it removed, I had the Paragard put in. Unfortunately, the heavy periods were pretty bad - tolerable, but much heavier than I'd ever experienced before. In the meantime, my husband & I decided our family was complete, he took care of things on his end & now I'm BC-free. Wishing you the best of luck.
Hi did you ask your doctor for just plain old copper iud? That has no hormones. I have mirena and want to switch soon, have had mirena for 3 years..I have the spot bleeding too, but rarely have a real period. I just don't like the fact that it contains hormones. I don't know what the purpose of giving everyone this mirena except these companies are pushing their products????? I could be wrong, but ask your doctor about the IUD without the hormones you shouldn't suffer.
Can't tell ya, but I encourage you to talk to your Dr again. Don't sit miserable with it.
I had Mirena for almost two years and I loved everything about it except for the constant bleeding. I would bleed two weeks out of the month. It was never heavy bleeding, but enough to be annoyed. For some reason I talked myself into waiting and waiting until one day I said enough is enough. Luckily for me we were done having kids so I had my husband get a vasectomy.
Good luck....my Dr said it could take 6 months to get back to normal. So maybe you will soon???
I had the Mirena and spotted for months. It did eventually end. I never got my sex drive back--it felt "different" somehow, but my doctor assured me that the Mirena didn't affect sex drive or ovulation. To even get there, however, it took months.
I did some research when I decided to have it removed and found all sorts of information about not being able to lose weight, headaches, etc. I don't know if any of that is true, but I lost 10 pounds thereafter. Good note: I stopped getting my period altogether, or for half a day at that.
I've known other women that LOVE it. For me, it was not a good fit. But I have no sex drive with the pill either.
I have the Mirena and for the first 6 months I had the spotting issue but after that I haven't had much issues with it. My periods are very light now but occasionally it will last a little longer than usual ( maybe like 10 days ). Some people have no problems with it and some do. I think though that when I get the Mirena removed I might go with the Paragaurd so I don't have to deal with the hormones. I just remember my doctor telling me the only issue with it is that it can cause you to have heavier periods? Maybe you should speak with your doctor and see about other options?
Sorry to tell you, mine never got better. I went 13 months with constant spotting...the first 5 months I had horrible cramping all the time.
I had it removed after 13 months and was so glad...it was a long horrible year.
I don't recommend the Mirena at ALL. It's constant hormones messed both me and my sister all up. I advise getting the regular copper T IUD. It works great without all the weird hormonal problems.
Luck!
