Best Ear Plugs for Sleeping

The airplane routes have somehow changed and after having no evening/night time noise for several years at our house, now suddenly the noise got unbearable last fall. Last plane flies over our house 1 am and the first one 5 am which only leaves four hours for sleeping. I hear the noise through all ear plugs I've tried, and ear phones are out of question, since I am a side sleeper and cannot sleep on the back due to a back/hip problem. And yes, I've called the DFW airport noise office but they claim nothing has changed and I do not really know who to contact next. Media? Until then please recommend good ear plugs for sleeping. They don't need to be comfortable as long as they keep the noise out.
Thank you.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

This noise is so bad, so loud, white noise won't help. It's like living next to an underground station but instead the airplanes fly by.

My husband snores like a train.

We are in the raw materials industry where it is rule if you go into a plant you wear earplugs.

I wear those earplugs, take benedryl sometimes, and wrap my head in my pillow.

As far as media... The air traffic routes are pretty well known and DFW or media will likely do nothing because they are going to fly.

We are in far north Plano/West Allen and when we were looking for housing 20 yrs ago realtors steered us away from anything close to DFW and Love Field because of noise.

I'm sorry, good luck and maybe the routes will switch. We flew out this am and when we took off, we went the direction that we normally land in. So yes things we're switched.

DFW takes off to the north more often in the fall and winter because the winds are out of the north. During the warmer months most takeoffs are to the south because that is where the wind comes from. You didn't mention where you live but that could be why you are hearing more noise. The takeoff and arrival patterns into and out of DFW have not changed (I am an airline pilot based in DFW).

My husband snores like a locomotive right next to me, right into my ears. I use 33 decibel ear plugs which I buy in the large containers from any drugstore. They do the trick for me.

Have you tried white noise? A small desk fan set on medium might help.

Have you tried white noise? I thought it was a bunch of nonsense until we got our new air filter last year. It sits on the dresser. Not only removes things I am allergic to but also the white noise helps me sleep like a rock!

Oh see great minds think alike. :)

Hun my husband snores like a mad bear! I can sleep through that with him right next to me!

We are also in the DFW flight pattern and hear lots of noise, we use a small fan that has just enough of a roar to drown out the constant flight noise. You might also try a white noise machine sold at most places ie; a sleep machine. Good luck

how about newer windows? i noticed when we got new windows that i could not hear the mailman going by with his rickety truck. i know there are noise-reducing or noise-eliminating windows. not sure how much they are though.

I am a really light sleeper and have used earplugs for years. They are my sanity. Don't bother with the foam ones or the kind that you mold with your fingers. They pop out and don't really drown out much. I buy ear plugs at Home Depot -- they are a soft, ridged rubbery plastic and come on a string. They stay in, and you can adjust the position depending on how tight a fit you want (and just how much sound you want to drown out). They are awesome, and I can almost guarantee that you will discover a whole new world of sleep. Good luck :-).
