A really, REALLY long time ago, my husband and I registered for the Warrior Dash. Well, it's TOMORROW! Man, it really got here quick!!! We are by no means super fit marathon running type people. My husband works out regularly and I hit the treadmill here at work several times each week. We are doing this more for fun than to actually compete or race. I mean......how many times as an adult do you really get to crawl thru mud??? My kids think it's the coolest thing ever that mommy and daddy are going to go crawl thru mud, climb walls and jump over fire. LOL =0) I know this is the first time the Warrior Dash has come to Tennessee, but it's been around for quite a while. Have any of you ever participated or know anyone who has?? Any advice or things you wish you would've done?? Were you able to move the next day?? I'm probably most worried about how sore I'm going to be. I'm taking our daughter to her very first concert tomorrow night (her idol....Taylor Swift!), so I'm crossing my fingers that the soreness won't kick in until Sunday! LOL There is a large group of us participating together and we are all there to have a good time. We are just looking for any advice from people who have done it before. =0)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My husband and I had the BEST TIME! We can't wait to do it again next year!!!!!! I must admit, I'm SUPER sore..........but, I would do it all over again tomorrow if I could! =0) The sense of accomplishment is so powerful! I look at all the video and pictures of all those obstacles and still get tickled that I did every single one of them ALL BY MYSELF! =0) Too awesome!

My husband just did the Dirty Dash 4 weeks ago with a group of people he works with. It was a 10k. He said it was tough, but there are times where you do get to rest (while waiting for the big slide, or balance beams, etc.). I was there taking pictures and watching everyone's kiddos. He loved it and said it was totally worth it. They had a Piglet Plunge for the kids and it was a mile long and he took both our boys on that afterwards. He was a little sore the next day, but not bad. HAVE FUN :):):)
ETA: and from what he said nobody is there to compete or win ~ they are all there to have fun!!! We donated their shoes at the end (I had flip flops for them for after) and had to wash their clothes outside with a hose before I would put them in my washing machine! Seriously ~ there was not a single spot on any of them that was not covered with mud!! Take a change of clothes and towels.

My BIL and his girlfriend (and her siblings) do this every year. They have a blast. It's really not about the fitness so much as a party weekend.

Wear a costume. Really- most of the participants do. My BIL and his girlfriend wore their scrub tops this year with masks.

Eat the turkey leg.

Take a ton of pictures.

You'll have a blast. I'm preggers this year otherwise we would have joined them. Sniff... maybe next year!

My husband and I ran/walked the Warrior Dash with my brother-in-law last year. My brother-in-law is just over 300 lbs and he couldn't run the whole course but he wanted to do it, so we took our time, ran a bit, walked a bit, but most of all had a blast acting like kids again. The only person you are really competing against is yourself. As far as how sore I was after the race, I was a bit sore, mainly from missing a step on an obstacle and falling off of it. I did train for the event - I do pilates twice a week but I added running into my routine so I wouldn't drop dead on the course. We ran ours in AZ so our mud pit had rocks on the bottom of it so my knees and hands got pretty cut up. My knees looked like my 4-years olds!! Enjoy yourself and have fun!!

My husband and I did the Military Challenge, which is similar. It's a 5K, and you go through mud (both running and crawling), over high hay bales and hurdles, etc. It was FUN. Be prepared to get DIRTY. Have a change of clothes handy, and cover your carseats with towels. We are both in pretty good shape, but I was SO SORE for the next two days. Especially my quads. But the soreness didn't really start til the next morning, so you should be good for the concert. Have fun! And don't be afraid to get mud everywhere.

My gf and I did Warrior Dash in the spring. I did no training other than to run 3 miles a couple times in the month before, and I played rec soccer. It was a blast! Wasn't sore the next day at all, except for my scraped up knees from crawling under the tarps. Wear shoes you plan to throw away, they actually donate them afterwards, there's a huge pile of shoes at the end. Take a change of clothes, and plan on tossing any clothes you do wear because the mud won't ever come out. If you are in a later wave be careful of the spots after the water obstacles, they can be really slippery - that was really the only place I came close to hurting myself.

Have fun!

ETA - definitely wear a costume! We had a couple prom dresses and even a wedding dress in our race, some guys dressed as super heroes, it was great!
