K. don't worry about it. Some kids don't crawl they go right to walking. Enjoy this time when you can still keep up with her. If it really bothers you then think about getting her into a walker that moves around (remember safety first) and see what she does.

My daughter took a while to crawl as well. About 13 months she decided to really start crawling. Just went from no movement to all crawling. She skipped over all the precrawl movements. She was also slow to walk (15months) but she's running now and is 19 months. As my husband kept saying, do you see any adults still crawling? Not to worry, they all come around.

I was also worried when our son wasn't crawling at 11 months. She may skip crawling and go straight to walking. If this is really concerning you, talk to your pediatrician. I won't worry about it. My sisters son didn't start to crawl until he was 11 months and even then it was just the army crawl. and he didn't walk until he was 15 or 16 months. She was really worried but her doc. told her that all babies are different and they will crawl and walk when they are ready and just let them take their time. My daughter also never really crawled. She started to at about 8 1/2 months and after about a week of that she was up walking around. So all babies are different and your little girl will crawl or walk when she feels ready.

Our little guy didn't crawl until 15 months so I would say not to worry about it either. We had a physical therapist check him out just to be on the safe side and she recommended putting him in the crawling position and then putting something out of his reach (like a favorite toy). She also recommended being behind him and guiding his hips so his legs would move forward crawling and the hands would follow. All my best!

I understand wholeheartedly your situation. My son will be a year old on A. 2nd and he is not "crawling" yet. He will scoot himself backward to a degree, but mainly just turns himself in circles on his butt for what he wants. Anything too out of reach and he hollers. We have had a tough time with family members commenting as he has a cousin who is 2 months older than he is and is already walking.
I have to keep reminding myself and my husband that every child is different and they all advance at their own pace. Also, if your child was premature at all, mine was a whole month early, then they tend to advance at what their real age is.
One of my favorite books is "What to Expect The First Year". It has been a wonderful source of information.

Many kids go straight from rolling over to walking. Encourage her to stand, put her in shallow water with floaties, surround her with tables so she can walk in circles, then let her go in circles around a table. Keep an eye on how she uses her feet. She should use her toes almost exclusively first, then change to flat footed. When she does, put her in shoes all the time. She should quickly be comfortable with moving around on her feet.

I am following the developmental milestones and realize it's important for them to crawl -- but my friend, a well-respected occupational therapist in the school system regionally, said not to worry -- they do what they do when they do -- and no one knows the difference in 20 years! So enjoy her immobility... I'm going to as long as it takes for my munchkin to stay still! :-) Have a great one!

Neither one of my daughters crawled until right before their first birthday. With my oldest we tried everything (she too hated being on her tummy) Our doctor kept telling us not to worry. Sure enough a week before she turned one she was crawling! She then walked at 16 months. My son crawled at eight months. Then my third child, just didn't want to crawl. I think kids really do just learn on their own time, and no matter what you do she will crawl when she is ready. I would say just try for like 15 minutes a day to put her on her tummy, and move her hands and feet, and put things just a little out of her reach, so at least she is attempting. And it will put your mind at ease a little more:)

I wouldn't worry about it. My daughter didn't crawl unti she was almost 10 months. Now she's 11 1/2 months and is hard to keep up with. I kinda miss the non mobile days. I used to be able to set her down to get dinner started and when I came back, ther she'd be...right in the same spot I left her. Now, even with a baby proofed house, she still finds ways to get herself into trouble. LOL. Does your daughter use other ways of getting around (like rolling or scooting)? Maybe she'll just skip crawling. I hear lots of babies do that.

I also have a 10 month old daughter who is barely in the last couple of days starting to crawl. She always hated being on her stomach. I think part of her problem is she has older siblings who would get her anything she wanted--she didn't have to work for it. FYI crawling isn't one of the developmental milestones pediaticians look at. I really don't have much advice on getting her to crawl--I only know she will do it when she is good and ready. One thing I did do though was put something she wanted just outside her reach so she would try to get it. In the meantime, enjoy her immobility!! It will be over before you know it and then you'll wish she never learned.

She refused to even stand up with help to walk until 18 months. Now she runs around with the rest of the kids, usually faster! If you're really concerned, talk to the pediatrician. If you are concerned always take these concerns to your Pediatrician. Some kids go straight to walking and skip crawling. My daughter didn't crawl well until 9 mos and didn't walk until 14 mos. My son however was the opposite and crawled at 6 mos and was walking at 10 mos. So every child is different in when they hit milestones. Is she making any attempt to move herself?? Some kids roll or inch their way in different ways. If she is making no attempt to get to point A to point B then I would bring this up to your Dr and see what they think? Make sure her legs get built up in strength by having her stand at a table with you holding her hands and make sure she has the muscle tone she needs to have if she is going to crawl or walk. Is she pulling up on anything?

Hi K.,
My daughter is 18 mos old and she has never crawled. Same issue, absolutely hated being on her stomach. She got around first by rolling everywhere she wanted to go, then she did a roll sit up reposition and roll, then by scooting on her tush, now she walks and tries to run. She has no problems or difficulty in anything else. I would tell people that asked me about it, that she was working on her brain power. Absolutely loved it. Kept me in stitches forever. She was really good at it. Every child will develop their own way and own pace. Honestly I would say, don't panic and don't worry, if your daughter doesn't crawl, she will come into her own. Does she get around any other way? You could also try putting her on her stomach and putting a favorite toy just a little out of her reach, sometimes that helps. (Didn't do anything for mine thought :))
I hope this puts your mind at ease in anyway.

The question is why do you want her to crawl? Is she doing everything else that a 10 month old is suppose to do? My youngest didn't crawl until 11 months and didn't walk until 15 months old.
Is your daughter more heavy set? Some times when they are bigger it is harder for them to move all their chubs around.
It will happen and when it does it is just important to be excited for her. Try not to compare to "others" we are all different and should have the right to make our own choices. No worries, she is normal.

I say have no fear. Not all babies follow the guidelines of "what should happen" at a certain age. I have a 7 1/2 mth old that hates being on her hands and knees too but loves to stand against the couch or scoot around in her walker.
Come to find out, my husband completely skipped the whole crawling thing and went straight to walking as soon as he saw something interesting enough to get his attention (wrapping paper and presents)!
Maybe your child is the same and she is just waiting for her legs to get stronger and the right moment or the right thing to go after. Don't worry, when she's ready she'll go and good luck trying to stop her!

Hi K.,
You might wait and see....she could just start walking. Maybe because she doesn't like being on her hands and kness she doesn't want much to do with crawling. I'm sure you'll hear this a lot that babies progess at their own rate, but if you truly are concerned, especially if you're seeing other things from a developmental standpoint, ask her pediatrician. But if she's doing most of the things a 10 month old will do, then you might wait and see.

My daughter did not start crawling until she was 10 months and even then is was more of an army crawl where she dragged herself across the floor, so she was 11 months by the time she started regular crawling on her hand and knees. I gave her tummy time every day but she would always just stay on her belly flailing her arms and legs. your baby will eventually figure it out. just give her lots of tummy time even though she doesn't like it. she will eventually start rolling over to her back to get off her tummy. the more rolling the better. put lots of toys near her but out of reach and expose her to other crawling babies often so she can see how its done. Babies learn a lot from watching others. good luck, she will get it in her own time.

If you decide to use one be sure to use baby gates to keep your daughter from rolling down the stairs if you have any as well as any rooms she is restricted from.I felt that the walker encouraged my kids to use their leg muscles. Is she rolling? If not, then when you put her down, put her toys just far enough that she needs to roll to the side...or stretch to get them. Then as she does this more quickly, you place them farther and farther away, until she is rolling. Once she realizes that she gets more things by being on her tummy, she will learn to crawl.
If your too concerned ask your pediatrician for an inhome evaluation, there are companies that will give physical therapy type work for your kids. They pretty much teach you to help your child learn a bit more quickly.
I have a 12 month old, that is still rolling. He every once in a while will get on his hands and his knees, but nothing quite worth crawling for. But he has a colostomy bag on his stomach, so it hurts to be on it for too long, and he has had numerous surgeries on his abdomen. She may get gas pains from being on her stomach...ask your pediatrician to check for this. If nothing it will ease your mind, that she is a late crawler and there is nothing wrong with this. Be grateful she isn't getting into everything and when you put her down to run around the house, you come back and she is still there! But try to give her some tummy time even for a minute each day. Eventually she will get used to it.
But if your too concerned, I would have her checked out. Good luck

Dear K.,
I had four children, and one of them NEVER crawled. She would roll to any place she wanted to get. She never even "cruised" much. She was the earliest walker of the four children. Babies all do things differently, none of them fit into the "perfect normal", so don't worry about your baby until a doctor is worried. Many areas of the country have testing for problems in development. Have you checked to see if that is possible for you to have your baby tested? My children are all grown up, and every one of them are smart, productive adults, but none of them did any of the things at the "normal" average time that books said they would. One walked at 16 months, another had a tooth come through at 2 mo., and I did not have a clue it was coming through. I didn't have a fussy baby that usually tells you that teeth are coming, and one sat up for the first time at about 7 months. They are all fine. Good luck! Try not to worry, and just enjoy the special person that she is.

My friend's baby didn't start crawling until after a year, and then didn't start walking until 17 months! I wouldn't worry about it just yet. Just make sure you're giving her enough tummy time for practice. Even if she doesn't like it. looks like you already got alot of responses. thought i would send you a response also to your question.
i have a son he is 1 year old now and hasnt crawled on his hands and knees yet. he started crawling army crawl at 11 months at christmas time. i gave him tummy time all the time and it seemed like he hated to be on his tummy. so we got a huge long stuffed animal and layed it on the floor and had him lay on the animal and my husband and i would lay on the floor with him.
that didnt seem to work either. so finally he grew out of his portable bath tub and i've been putting him in the big bath tub. and for some reason it helped my son to crawl. i would fill the bath tub with water and just let him play in it. and splash the water. he would pull himself up and down the bath tub and i noticed that when we took him out of the bath tub he would try to crawl. and it helped my son to crawl. so now i let him play in the bath tub alot to help him crawl. he still hasnt crawled on his hands and knees but he is crawling the army crawl!
i was told the same thing everyone else been saying. that some kids just dont crawl. some walk first. my advice is to try the bath time in the big bath tub. and more tummy time. also dont worry so much. all kids learn at different stages. be proud of them for all that they do learn and dont get discourage. she will crawl soon!
hope these ideas work for you!
good luck,
