Crawling Sore Knees

My daughter has just started crawling on her knees, and the poor things are red and rough and look so sore! I keep her knees covered while she crawls, but they still get a lot of friction through the layers. Any other suggestions? Any good creams?

What can I do next?

My kids started crawling in the spring and summer. To let them crawl outside, I cut the tops off of old socks, whatever size would fit their legs and slip them on over their knees. I actually saw a product in a magazine just like it but expensive that gave me the idea. Worked great!!!!!

We bought knee pads from Babies R Us for our fist, as all we have are solid surface floors. That seamed to help. You may also try a Eucerin Cream. That is what the doctor recommended for eczema. Make sure to get the cream though, not the lotion. Also, walmart makes a generic brand and it is 1/3 of the price with the same effects.

I'd try some vaseline at night before bed. Also, Nivea lotion and cream do a good job--recommended to me by a pharmacist. My children's knees got calloused after a while. I made sure they wore tough fabric long pants like denim.

If the knees get really sore, usually the child will quit crawling until soreness goes--babies are smart.

Hi M.,
I remember this time, my kids were in shorts when they went through this and their knees were sore. Luckily they both walked quickly. I would keep lotion on hand. Good luck.

They make knee pads for just this sort of thing. I have seen them in the One Step Ahead catalog. They should help!
