Hi, K..
I'm the 'mommy' of a 15 year-old girl who has several special needs labels, but none of them is Down Syndrome. However, I know of a couple of terrific groups in our area where you can get in touch with other moms. You can also get information about programs, activities, schools, and more from these groups. One is the Arc of Greater Tarrant County ###-###-#### and the other is the Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas, http://www.downsyndromedallas.org/.
There is nothing like the companionship of someone who has "been there," so I hope this helps you connect with moms who share some of your concerns. My advice, as a mom who has been through some, but not all, of this journey, is to not forget the OTHER moms you encounter. It's great for us to address our kids' special needs, but she really is more LIKE other kids than she is DIFFERENT from them. It's been really important that I remember to treat her like "other kids," and keeping in touch with moms of all kinds of girls helps me do that!
Have a great week!
