I recently gave birth to twin boys and have decided to quit work and stay at home with the twins and my two other boys (ages 3 and 6). I am new to the stay at home thing and want to make sure I don't go insane! I also want to make sure my 3 year old has has contact with other children besides the twins when his brother goes off to school. I moved to Grapevine a year ago and have not met many people except those on my street. I would love to meet other mothers in the area. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
Wow, you are really going to have your hands full now with the arrival of the two little ones. Congratulations.
I have two boys, 3 & 7 and I also try and do some things with my little one while the other is off at school.
One of the things that I have done since my first born was a toddler is the McDonald's small fry club. I have met several moms with kids my age there and they are still some of my closest friends as well as my son's. The club is free. You would have to contact a McDonald's in your area to see which one had this club but they ususally have a set time once a week for the club which is located in the playland area. The club last for 30 minutes and during that time they will have a project for the kids to participate in. Lots of time us parents have to help them with it but for the most part it mainly something they can do. Our club also does games and stories and sometimes have special days where they schedule a dentist to come talk to the kids or the fire or police department will come and let the kids look at their vehicles and take pics.
They have tons of different themes for all throughout the year. We usually get there a few minutes early, eat lunch then it's time for the kids to participate in the club and then they play for a little while. There is a McDonald's representative there that comes in and does the activities for the club. (It's usually someone from the corporate office). It's for kids ages 1-10 so in the summer my older one can still participate also. They look forward to going every week.
Also, I have heard of this but have never done it yet but MOPS (Mothers of preschoolers) has meetings that give you the opportunity to meet other moms. I am going to join the one here pretty soon. (I live in NRH).

Hope this helps. It is tough trying to keep the kids entertained so they don't get bored. Good Luck to you.

Hi I'm a stay at home mom of 2 boys, 2 and 3. And we just moved to Grapevine. I too would like to get together with other moms. But my husband and I have but 1 car and he works and goes to school so the car is gone most of the time. But we live at Oak Park apartments and we go swimming and just spend a lot of time at the apartment. If you would like to get together, you can call me ###-###-####

Hi S.,

There are a few playgroups on meetup.com that are listed for stay at home moms. I organize a group for work-outside-the-home moms, but we've expanded to include all moms - it's been really fun. We have weekday activities for the summer, but will probably extend that into the rest of the year too. So, please check us out while you're looking at meetup. If you Google mom's groups, you'll see some others too! Our link is http://workingmoms.meetup.com/5/ We do things in Keller, Grapevine and Southlake mostly.

Good luck - enjoy being a SAHM - you're so blessed!!

This is a great group of women (at least the South group is). I used to be involved the first time I stayed home and loved it. Need to restart since I'm staying home again..

BTW, this is Julia's mom (if you're who I think you are :o) )

I just became a SAHM after several years in a pretty demanding out of home job. It is funny how hard it is to try to "control" a baby versus your day at the office. I leaned on a childhood friend for advice on what to do with my day. She had left the corporate workforce the year before to stay home with her two boys. Anyway, I ended up joining MOMS Club and am enjoying it. It is nice to have some interaction with others outside the home and I don't feel any pressure to always be on my "A" game as they are going through the same struggles I am. I like the playgroup too and the different planned activities we are able to participate. I saw someone else gave you the website for joining but thought I would give my two cents worth.

Hi S.. I am in the same boat as you. I have a 16 yr. old daughter and a 22 month old son and we are expecting our last baby in Jan. I have also recently began staying at home full time and I'm also looking for a group where my almost 2 year old will get to play with other kids. Plus, I would't mind socializing also. I am in Lewisville, close to Grapevine. Let me know if you find any groups to join. Good luck!

Yes - definitely go check out meetup.com and search for Mom group, play group etc. in your zip code. I just joined a group that I found that way for working Mom's and it has been great. I remember when I was first looking that there were quite a few stay at home Mom groups in your general area. Sometimes you can only read limited info about the group b/c they keep their events etc. private until you join (which is safer). You can always email the coordinator and ask questions before you decide to join. A question you may want to ask is the age range of the group and maybe if there are people in the group or activities in areas that are close to where you live. That way you'll know that you will meet people of similar age/interests.
Good Luck!

Hi S.,
First Baptist Grapevine has a Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) program, too. Also, 121 COmmunity Church (right next to pump it up, behind Stacy Furniture) is a wonderful place to meet other moms. We have small groups that meet at the church with child care available. It is an awesome place to be!

check it out at www.121cc.com Hope to meet you there!

Our group in Greater Lewisville Mothers and More. We have moms from all of Denton, Collin, and Tarrant county right now. We would love to have you check us out. www.mothersandmore.org This group saved me when my now 7 year old was only 18 months old. We now have a very strong "Seasoned Moms" group in addition to all the new moms that join us.

Also, for the extra energy for the older two, Pump It Up in Grapevine offers Pop In Play on Wed and Thur from 10-1. The boys would love to come and jump some of that energy out! It is $6/ child to play and adults are free. There is a nice group of regulars that comes every week. Not a formal playgroup, but we have watched as several new babies have joined us this past year!

When your oldest starts school, you'll meet lots of other moms. Try to walk to or from school if possible, that will help you meet people. Try to volunteer at school if you can work it out b/c you'll meet people that way as well. And, if you see kids playing on the playground after school (before you head home), try staying too. That will give the kids a chance to play and you a chance to meet some other moms.

I also belong to a MOPS group (mothers of preschoolers) that meets at The Church at the Cross, which is on William D Tate (the place where they have a big lake and do Cast for Catfish every year). Anyway, that is a place where you can have childcare for the little ones for a bit and talk to other moms in your area who all have preschool children. You'll get some grown up time and great advice on being the best mom you can be and how to balance it all, advice on keeping your marriage going, etc. It's GREAT! For more information you can contact me at ###-###-#### or ____@____.com and I'd be glad to tell you more and let you know what to do to sign up. We start up when school starts. I think we meet on the 3rd Wed. of each month, but I don't know for sure. You can also check the website at www.churchatthecross.com for information on MOPS.

For the summer, check out the free things to do at the local Library's (Southlake, Grapevine & Colleyville all have great kids programs for the summer). There are always a ton of kids and moms at the events, so yet another place to meet some moms that maybe have kids the same age as you.
