a Arizona 3 month old died after the "father" left him in the car to go get high...this breaks my heart hearing about these stories! and to hear a former friend justify smoking pot in the presence of children is just as bad. when will people be responsible?

What can I do next?

omg, how can this keep happening? it's not like the word's not out.
i do NOT blame this on ganja. irresponsible people do irresponsible things, and blame their jobs or spouses or the 6 pack of beer they just drank or obama.

I think I would have preferred the father get high in front of the baby rather than leave the baby in the car.

I feel like the punishment should be to be locked in a car, in the sun, until just before it does permanent damage, just so they can live with knowing what their poor baby went through. :(

Don't Do Drugs!
I want them to show statistics.
Most of the children around here that were left in cars, were just typical parents. Not drunk or on drugs.

Are these first time parents?
Is it the moms or the dads that tend to forget.
The parent that left the child, were they running errands?, Left in the car in the home drive way, in a work parking lot, at a store?

Was the child in the care of the parent that does not normally drive around with the child?

I have a very good friend that over 20 years ago admitted she almost forgot her child in the back seat of her car. She was a first time mom, completely exhausted, Had been working all week, the infant was asleep and this mom was just running the typical weekend errands.

She said she got her shopping cart and entered the store. Thank goodness she saw an infant in an infant in a infant seat in a grocery cart.

She cried and cried, that she could forget her own child, bu she was a new mom, exhausted and just was not thinking straight. This is a very bright organized woman.
I remember being a zombie some days when our daughter was so young.

But if we could figure out who and when this is most likely to happen at least we could be proactive instead of reactive.

People who leave children or animals in hot cars should be locked in a metal box in the sun with no water and no ventilation until they die.

I just don't understand it. It hurts my heart that there are people out there dying to have children of their own and can't.. And then people like this do. So sad. :(

No matter how exhausted I've been, I always remind myself to double check the babies when I go in and out of the car. I've done a lot of stupid stuff while in a zombie haze but leaving my babies is my biggest fear so I make that the one thing to remember. Poor child.

The father stopped at a bar where he works and ran in "just for a minute," then ended up staying over an hour and apparently smoking weed. It would have been just as awful if he had been kicking back and drinking a beer while his child cooked to death. There is no excuse. I was listening to a story the other day about how it is harder to get aid for families who need AC in hot climates than for families who need heat in cold climates. Somehow there is a perception that the heat is less dangerous, which is simply not the case. Leaving a baby in a hot car exacerbates the heat. It is the same as leaving an uncovered baby in a snow bank, where the wind exacerbates the cold. This father made his own hell and I don't have it in me to pity him. My heart breaks for the rest of the family.
