I struggle with anxiety/depression. when not preg I take 60 mg. Prozac/day. I have stopped taking and have two months left pregnant and the anxiety is back. My 22 month old was born with brief NICU visit that I believe was caused by my taking Prozac during his pregnancy. he had a horrible time transitioning with withdrawal type symptoms during first two months. Anyone know of a Christian Psychiatrist I might could try to build a relationship with to get some advice on what to do this last two months. My OBGYN says take the meds and don't worry too much about the side effects on baby. But I want to be sure. Advice welcome.

What can I do next?

Don't know anyone to refer you to, but have you ever tried yoga for pregnant moms? Most yoga places are exercise related, so there shouldn't be any conflict with your faith (and you can always ask to be sure). I know it's not medication, and don't know if it would be helpful with anxiety, but it's very relaxing and good for you and the baby, so it may be worth looking into. Good luck and take care!

Can you ask your doctor/midwife about taking Natural Calm? It's a powdered magnesium supplement you can get at Whole Foods. It may take a few days to kick in but the only side effect is loose bowels if you take too much! Also, what about adding some Carlson Fish Oil? (also at Whole Foods; use the Fish Oil not the cod liver oil if you are concerned about the Vitamin A and D levels). The extra omegas and magenisum between the two supplements could provide the drug-free support you are looking for.

Add a supportive therapist and you may feel even better ;)

I suffer from depression too and succesfully took Lexapro during my pregnancy (talk to your doc first). I continued to take it while nursing, and my baby girl is great!! My understanding from my doc at my last visit is that Zoloft has been studied the MOST during pregnancy, so I've recently switched to it (I made the mistake of thinking I didn't need my meds anymore!) in hopes of getting pregnant this winter.

Talk to your pharmacist too. Just remember it's important that you are well and healthy so you can take of yourself and your little ones. If you are depressed, you can't help anyone. Good luck!!!

try the meier clinic in richardson (http://www.meierclinics.com/Richardson_Staff)
i've been going to a counselor for about a month now and i think it's been great. they have pychiatrists there as well. it is really important to me that i go somewhere christian because i want the advice i receive to be biblically based rather than "worldly". i have more trust in what my counselor has to say knowing that it is backed up by god's truth.
i'm so sorry you have been anxious and i think it's really wise of you to be seeking help the way that you are!

You are very smart in seeking help, not only for the next two months but also because of a higher risk for post partum depression. I have heard good things of Dr. Nancy Shoshid, who is a psychiatrist, don't know if christian but seems to be very open.
Good luck!

Try Dr. Joseph G. Bolin in Plano, Texas, he has several patients that are pregnant and are on antidepressants and do just fine. He is a family practitioner but all his patients ADORE him.
Good luck to you!

B. dont feel your alone in the anxiety and depression struggle... I my self struggled and still struggle w/this. But at first it was difficult, but I have been doing so much better w/ the faith of the Lord and the love and understanding of my family things are so much better and of course the medicatin called xanax I started w/3 pills a day and now i only take 1or 2 pills a month. Having someone to talk to about your worries and frustrations helps so much bk then you know that your not alone. Also anxiety sometimes makes you feel worried, alone, afraid but you no wat its all in your mind, have faith in the Lord and in your self, most of all in the Lord.... K God bless U
