We just moved to Rockwall from a smaller city, & we are loving it. But, I am having trouble finding out where I can get rid of a refrigerator (freezer on top that we inherited with the house) and also a deep freezer that we got from my parents. I have looked into goodwill and tried googling some things, but have not had any luck. What are your thoughts ladies? I just want them out of the garage!
AND, I also have a computer (old Gateway), monitor (with no power cord) and a laptop(not working), just sitting in the garage too. I really want to just throw them in the trash, but I know there are better ways to get rid of them!
Are there people out there that take this old stuff to refurbish? I'm ready to get rid of this clutter but don't know where to start in this new town.

I got rid of everything except the freezer!! Yippee! Thanks for all of the advice. I ended up using FreeCycle and you're right, it is super easy and what a blessing to be able to give it to someone who needs it. The freezer, I have discovered, has stopped working. Something must have happened during the 3 months it was in storage. So, I'm still figuring out how to get rid of this too! Thanks for all your help!!

http://www.freecycle.org Best and Fastest way to regift items you no longer want or need. I have been a Freecycle group owner now for three years and a Member of other freecycle groups for 4 years. I have no clutter left in my house. We have very limited trash. Everything we no longer need or want gets posted on the Freecycle board and is usually gone with in 24 hours.
Please check them out. I am sure you will come to love Freecycle.
Craigslist!
Put up pictures and honest descriptions of what is working and what is NOT working with your items.
We had 3 old computers that all had something wrong with them, and somebody came and took the whole loot for $250! And to think, we were just going to throw them away...
I also made a blog for our stuff when we put it on Craigslist. It had the exact same descriptions and pictures as on craigslist, but everything was all in one spot. Just put the blog name in the craigslist listings. If I had not done this, the guy would not have bought all the computer stuff. Do it at blogger.com. It is really easy!

There is a web site www.freecycle.org - you can locate groups near you (there is one for Rockwall County) and it is a message board for recycling stuff around your house to other people who could use it. Instead of it going into a landfill, someone might be able to put it to use - it's a great place to get rid of stuff you have lying around that you don't need or want any more.
I agree---Craigslist is the BEST. For the computer/electronics stuff, this store in Dallas is doing an electronics recycling drive on October 18th to keep stuff like that out of the trash www.green-living.com
LIst it on Craigslist FREE section. Post photos and say if they are or are not in working order....trust me, you will have 20 emails saying they will come out and pick it up ASAP.

Try the Green Sheet. They are allowing the placement of free ads on Fridays (w/limitations). You may also find places for appliance/computer repair who would probably take the items off your hands to refurbish and resale.
Sorry, I'm new to the area as well so I don't kow how you would get rid of your items...but...I wonder about the deep freezer...does it work and are you looking to get rid of it or sell it?
Sell them on Craig's list...or Ebay. Give to Catholic Charities...they help lots of people.
We have Helping Hands on hwy 66 here in Rockwall. They are kinda like Goodwill and have a resale store. They will come to your house and pick-up these items up at no charge if they are taking things in at this time. I think they need to be in working order. They also help people in need and if someone's home burns and such. Their number is ###-###-####.
For your large Applicances - TXU and I think Reliant has a program where they will pick up old fridges and freezers. They have the means to properly dispose of them (with them having the Coolants and Freon in them) As far as your old equipment - try a computer repair shop - they can use them for parts.

Craig's List or put it out on the curb when your city has a bulk item pick-up because there are alot of people that go out looking the night before and take the stuff. We put our old water heater out and it was gone within an hour.
try Freecycle.org
You can list these or any items you want to get rid and people will take them off your hands. There are no fees exchanged and people are generally responsible for picking the items. I get the freecycle update daily.
